The Tulane University Green Wave enter the weekend at 13-4 overall and 3-1 in The American after winning at UConn Oct. 6, 3-0, and falling at home to Houston Oct. 4, 3-2...The Green Wave are slated to play at Tulsa Friday before taking on the Shockers Sunday...Through 17 matches, Tulane is paced by junior outside hitter Lexie Douglas (176 kills, 2.63 kills/set, 23 aces, 171 digs, 2.55 digs/set, two block solos, 35 block assists), sophomore setter Amanda Giardina (330 assists, 5.08 assists/set, 11 aces, 114 digs), senior libero Kaylie McHugh (303 digs, 4.59 digs/set, 19 aces, 86 assists) and sophomore middle hitter Kayla Dinkins (seven block solos, 89 block assists, 1.52 blocks/set, 136 kills, 2.16 kills/set, .279 attack pct.)...Dinkins leads the conference in blocks per set, and ranks fourth in the nation in total blocks (96)...The Green Wave were picked third in The American preseason poll...Tulane is under the direction of fourth season head coach Jim Barnes.
To be honest my expectations for this weekend are not very high in terms of winning either of these matches. At least that way any surprises will be positive ones. Hate to say it but Lambo's worst year at WSU, 8-23 in his first year in 2000, might be at risk of being supplanted by this year's team. However, the schedule with 12 matches remaining does ease up a little bit. I see the Shocks going 4-8 of 5-7 over these remaining 12 matches which would put them at 8-20 or 9-19 on the season to just avoid displacing Lambo's 1st years as his worst year. But my degree of confidence in such a prediction is not real high.
Lambo said in his Monday radio show that that he is sort of in player development mode at this point and I suppose that the best thing for Shockers fans to do is to focus on that and not so much on the wins and losses at this point. Although I hate losing.
