Cincinnati's Jordan Thompson Keys USA Volleyball to 2020 Olympics Qualification
The U.S. Volleyball Women’s National Team qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games last week, with Cincinnati standout Jordan Thompson shining for Team USA throughout the tournament.
Thompson, a rising redshirt senior for the Bearcats and 2018’s unanimous American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, keyed No. 3-ranked Team USA to wins over No. 23 Kazakhstan, No. 16 Bulgaria and No. 11 Argentina to rise undefeated out of Pool C. In the clinching match, a straight-set victory over Argentina, Thompson was the difference-maker, leading Team USA on the attack with 13 kills on 35 swings, two aces and a block. For the tournament, she totaled 42 points while appearing in eight of 11 sets.
Thompson was one of just three players on Team USA’s qualifying roster with collegiate eligibility, and was the only one of the three to see action. She will return to Cincinnati for her final campaign in 2019 as a two-time AVCA All-American, most recently earning Second Team accolades as a junior. She led the nation in kills, points, kills per set and points per set as Cincinnati advanced to the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
Jordan Thompson is a must see player. She will be the AAC player of the year again in 2019 barring injury. She absolutely dominated the Shockers last year. The Shocks simply had no answers for the long, athletic and skilled 6-4 outside hitter. Thankfully, for all the other AAC schools, this is the last season they will have to deal with Jordan.
