  • Jam The Gym vs UNI ($3 Tickets)

The Shocks take on Bradley on Friday evening at 7:00 pm and the #12 ranked UNI Panthers at 7:00 pm in a huge match on Saturday evening at 7:00 pm.

The Shocks should have little trouble taking care of Bradley on Friday but they need to come out and use that match as an opportunity to get in the proper frame of mind for Saturday's match.

Saturday is a huge opportunity for the Shocks to polish their NCAA at-large resume which they most likely will need come NCAA Tournament selection day.

Saturday is Jam the Gym night. TICKETS ARE $3 IF PURCHASED IN ADVANCE and according to the ticket office TODAY IS THE LAST DAY to buy those discounted tickets. The 1st 1,000 fans also receive a free volleyball. (CHANGED - TODAY IS NOT THE LAST DAY TO BUY DISCOUNTED TICKETS - SEE POSTS BELOW)

Shocks had UNI on the ropes in Cedar Falls 4 weeks ago but could not quite close the deal losing in 5 sets by scores of 25-20, 26-24, 23-25, 23-25, and 13-15 in a battle royale.

Shocks currently sit 14th in average attendance. Would be a good time to give our average attendance a nice boost.

I will say I am a little irritated that they have not promoted this match and the discount tickets more vigorously and they have not made it clear at all regarding the cut-off time for purchasing the $3 tickets. Technically buying tickets in advance (unless it is made clear as to what the cutoff time is) would be any purchase prior to the first serve of the match.

Edit: I did call the Shocker VB office about this and they were going to talk with the marketing department. So maybe this deadline will change.

Ok. Good News. A representative of the WSU marketing department called me to clarify the situation with the $3 tickets. She said the $3 tickets will be available online until 6 pm on Saturday and any tickets purchased at the ticket office will be $3 anytime prior to first serve. She also said that they had clarified this with the ticket office.

I also suggested to them that they had a perfect opportunity to market this promotion at Shocker Madness tonight. I suggested that they give Lambo the microphone and give him a couple of minutes to personally invite all in attendance to take advantage of the Jam the Gym promotion and to attend what could be and should be a very high level, competitive and entertaining volleyball match.

Do I get another green bar or maybe a lollipop? :joyous:

I will say I was very pleased with the prompt response from the marketing department and the administrative assistant, Pauline Berry, who contacted me was very pleasant.

Now I am ready to get really proactive. I will be purchasing in the neighborhood of 15-20 tickets for the UNI match (on top of my 2 season tix) and I challenge all Shocker fans to contact their family, friends and neighbors and let's truly Jam the Freakin' Gym on Saturday.

I sure hope they promote this match tonight at Shocker Madness.

Very disappointed in the relatively poor effort to promote Saturday's VB match with UNI. I think they mentioned it once during the men's scrimmage during a break in the action but it was hardly noticeable and then again after the men completed their scrimmage after 80% of the crowd had already exited the arena. Instead of taking the opportunity to promote this during halftime of the men's scrimmage we were treated to a couple of fan shooting contests (and they were bad). A great opportunity to introduce the volleyball team to the crowd and have Lambo talk about Saturday's match and invite the crowd to Jam the Gym. I guess I just don't get it. I sure don't understand the apathetic, laissez faire approach. We expect the players to hustle. Wouldn't hurt the AD adminstration to do the same.

UNI is one tough-minded team. They simply refuse to lose. Shocks are capable of beating them but it will definitely not be easy.

Here's a stat for you: in the 4th set UNI hit .714.

sounded (at least with how the UNI radio guy described it) like MSU's coach pulled a bunch of her starters late in that 4th set, and had them resting/strategizing on the bench for the last 5 or 6 points going into the tiebreaker set. Interesting strategy.

UNI's assistant coach (Kalani Mahi) gave a shout out to Lamb in his postgame radio interview because he "figured the Shockers were listening". I got a chuckle out of that.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about that strategy. Personally I think volleyball is way too much a game of momentum to ever want to let a good team get in a good hitting groove going into the 5th set (although I assume UNI's hitting percentage would have been pretty gaudy even without MSU pulling starters).

This article has most of the points made in Lambo's post-game show.
