Tonight's match is hugely important. At the very least you want to secure that 2nd place seed in the MVC Tournament.

I am assuming UNI will be the #1 seed and at the very worst the #2 seed.

If the Shocks can secure the other Top 2 seeding position it generally makes the path to the MVC Finals much easier.

The top 2 seeds both get 1st round byes and would not have to face each other until the finals.

Tonight's match won't determine anything but it sure gives the winner a nice edge in pursuit of a top 2 seed.

is this a new rule? regional hosts have quite often hosted the sub-regional matches as well.

In 2010, Texas, Dayton, Washington, and Penn State all hosted both of the first two weekends.

In 2009, Florida and Stanford hosted the first two weekends, with the third regional being in Omaha (I think Nebraska was the "host school" even though it wasn't in their home arena, and the Huskers had hosted the first weekend). Minnesota had the 4th regional, but they hadn't hosted first round.

Then I am certain I have wrongly applied basketball theory to volleyball. Probably I was just hopeful that 4 teams would be out of the running for the 16 1st and 2nd round sites and thereby improving our chances to host.

        Thanks J.

Wouldn't that be fantastic to have that much great volleyball here in a town that really knows how to appreciate it! My fingers are crossed. Go Shox!

But I do realize the Bares are a different animal compared to the Redbirds...so to speak.

Embarrassing. To be run out of your own gym by a bunch of wildebeests.

Frankly, I have no idea how 1 of the games was even close.

Frustrating to say the least. McCartney is a monster and only a sophomore.

Riding the roller coaster.....on the way down.

I failed to mention that I never really did learn to speak hypothetical.

We got pounded on serve-receive, and I am not just talking about the SA-SE differential. We outhit and outblocked them, but ... . On the post-game show, Lambo also questioned their fight.

Credit to MSU, they were definitely the more aggressive team by far and they certainly wanted it more than did the Shocks.

I guess we will find out what kind of leadership we have on this team.

If we play anywhere close to the way we played tonight next Friday in Cedar Falls none of the 3 sets will be close.

About the only stat the Shocks won was blocks and in MSU's defense you really don't block all that many tips and dumps.

I will say this for the Shocks it was a team effort.

Hard to say what we really have with this team.

You got that right...that's why I can't believe even one game was close....we passed the ball all over the place, and MSU was nails. Of course we were diving for service returns while the Wildebears were salivating at the soft cupcakes they routinely pasted at our back line.
