  • 2018 NCAA Volleyball Tournament

The Selection Show is today at 730pm CT on ESPNU.

UCF should get a National Seed of 14 or 15 say the bracketologists on VT. (The Bracketology Guy of several years and the RPI Futures Guy who is apparently trying his hand at it this year.) They likely will host Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State, and Florida. The pod seeds are listed in #4, #3, #2 order.

Cincinnati will get an at-large bid.

  • #2
UCF is the #13 National Seed and hosts the teams mentioned earlier.

Cincinnati goes to #14 Marquette and is the #2 seed in that pod.

UNI is the #2 seed in the pod of #6 National Seed Wisconsin.

Illinois State also goes to Marquette and plays the Bearcats in their opening match.

The Top Four Seeds are Stanford, Minnesota, Illinois and BYU. The Shocks scheduled tough to be sure.

Isn’t there a NIT type of tourney this year in VB?

Yes there is and the Shockers are in it. See the separate thread on the NIVC.

For the curious, UNI v Pepperdine is available here with a 5pm start time.

UNI, down 0-2, could not come all the way back, losing 13-15 in the fifth.

Florida Gulf Coast 3-2 #13 UCF
              (17) 22 23 (14) 7

UCF is the first National Seed to fall. They were +6 in points but -1 in sets.

In a poll on VT, UCF was picked as the first National Seed to lose, first by a large margin. I think many expected them to lose to Florida in the second round.

Cincinnati v Illinois State is here starting at 430pm CT.

The Redbirds are a very slight favorite per Pablo, essentially a toss-up.

                Set One: Bearcats, 25-19

                Set Two: Bearcats, 25-22

                Set Three: Bearcats, 25-22

                      #11 USC 0-3 San Diego

                      #12 Pittsburgh 2-3 Michigan

#13 UCF 2-3 Florida Gulf Coast

                    Semifinals:
                    Thursday, December 13
Stanford vs. BYU at 7 p.m. ET
Illinois vs. Nebraska at 9 p.m. ET

                    National Championship:
                    Saturday, December 15 at 9 p.m. ET

Too bad Stanford and BYU had to be on the same side of the bracket.

Not wild (to say the least) about the split screen video on ESPN2. Bottom half the screen is the scoreboard and the top half is split between a conventional view and a overhead view.

I thought they were dead in the water after the 9 point, second set loss. Not only does their coach feel Nebraska is the most improved team during the year, but they did a pretty darn good job of improving during one night.

One has to wonder how in the heck Lexi Sun transferred from Texas to Nebraska.

My guess is that Nebraska was one of a number of programs in the running for Sun, originally from San Diego, when she came out of high school. When Texas wasn't what she thought it was, or when she decided Texas was not going to win a National Championship soon, she began to look elsewhere.

                          Strictly my guess.
