Opening Weekend for Shocker Volleyball

As usual, we're better out of system than most everyone. A lot of that during set 3. VCU must have 15-20 block errors.

For the set, .295 v . 205.

For the match, Abby/Emma have a line of 14-0-23. Megan is 12-4-23 for .348. Neither Tabitha nor Alex are hitting their weight. (No offense intended, Alex. I'm guessing.)

Set Four

Another service ace off Alex to start the set.

1-6 and a TO for the Shocks.

Love Alex but we're going to have to do something different in the back row.

VCU has 4 aces. All 4 at the expense of Alex and they are looking to serve her as much as possible.

And they should. Good coaching. I realize we don't have 100 subs each set, but this is not good.

This start to set 4 is not surprising at all. We're struggling. It seems like we put about 3 balls on the deck the last 3 sets. At most.

Back-to-back errors by Chase (score of 5-11 now) and Grace is back in.

Man that was a big couple of points. Reversal of Chase's error, then an ace and we keep it within shouting distance.

Another block, 10-5.

11-5. Grace replaces Chase.

Another block. Seriously, at this point, we can't even get the ball over the net.

Still an 0-2 VCU team that's lost to a good Washington State team (not great but good) and an OK NCState team. At this point we should just go sit down and let VCU play the set out.

Indeed. Hard to be very optimistic about the 5th set. Maybe Lambo will switch to a 5-1 look in an attempt to try to give VCU a different look.

Just my opinion, but we're going to be terribly deficient if Kali has to play front row. She's just not as tall, athletic or physical to be successful there. Only way I see us being a 5-1 team is if Kora comes on.

That attack number difference is misleading if you think that somehow we're doing a better job getting swings. That difference is mostly if not totally due to them blocking 100 swings that stay in play.

Thank goodness there....nearly 2-0. 1-1 is huge.

VCU just have a lot more athletes than we do. It's going to take something special to win here.
