  • Jawanza Poland Class of 2010

Probably past time for this Wichitan's own thread. We've discussed him some and know he's visited WSU for at least one game along with Robert Goff. We now have word (see below link) that he will not stay at Hutch next year and instead will go D-1. The following gives WSU, OU, Iowa State and West Virginia as schools with interest. Could be another school or two very interested in Poland.

    Any relation to Jawanza Poland?

Just what we need, another 6'4" non-PG.

        Fixed.

You never know. But I do know I'm moving him to the 2010 summary and giving him "high interest."

I'm starting to get torn over this. On one hand, the emergence of DWill and the ability for Murry, Kyles and Manigault to play some point is encouraging, making a scorer like Poland, with 3 years to play, intriguing.

But on the other hand, only having one true PG is a concern.

I'm back to, In Marshall We Trust.

In reality, aren't we all in this boat. And so far, I like where this boat is headed.

You can also add Hatch and Richardson to the 6'4" group as 2/3s.

I agree, having Poland for 3 years, as would be the case for Cousin and Rogers, is an added bonus.

I've not seen him play but from reading the article, if the comparison to D Wade is correct then I think we have room for another 6'4 guard.

If J. Poland really wants to be a Shock, I would love to find room for him. It feels good that solid Wichita players are looking our way. J.P. is quite an athlete, is a skywalker, and can score. No matter who signs him, they will like his game and he will be in their (our) player rotation. My gut feeling is that we will sign a point guard, and 1 maybe 2 more players. It sounds as though several of you agree and this is not an unusual happening. April will be here before we know it so we can fill in the final chess moves to complete the puzzle.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I can pass off the dribble, and I can pass as I attack the rim. I am all about winning. I have a winning attitude and I will do whatever I need to do to win. I get most my points off fastbreaks dunking off steals, but I have a good shot and shot 40-percent from the three."

I'll say this - he doesn't seem to lack any confidence about his game and Marshall has tended to like guys with a bit of swagger (although unlike Altman with P'unk, has shown the ability to keep them in line if their egos are getting too big).
