  • Jonathan Simmons to Houston

What timing on this one! Rivals posts a new 2010 offer from WSU to Jonathan Simmons, a 6-5 SF at Midland CC. He also has offers from Cincinnati, Utah and South Florida. He dominated Utah's elite camp in July on both sides of the floor.

The schools listed above all have 'high' interest, medium interest in Oklahoma.

In a previous post elsewhere, I mentioned Jans hitting the road again. It could be for a home visit and if so this might indicate high interest in a recruit from his area (mostly to the North). I failed to mention, he also covers the Mullins camp in Tulsa each year. It includes highly thought of JC players.

Did he transfer there? I see him on Midland's roster, but can't find any stats on him.

I did see where Baylor, Marquette and Central Arkansas were the schools "of interest" out of high school. Of course they didn't offer so he went the JUCO route.

Looks like he went to Smiley HS in Houston.

Now I'm STARTING to get somewhere on the search. According to the Houston Chron. archives his name is actually spelled Jonathan Simmons. That is why my search was not brining anything up before! :)

Found a Jonathan Simmons that played for Paris Juco as a Freshman last year from Houston TX...bet it's the same one! (both also wear #23)

Well IF it is the same Jonathan Simmons that played for Paris Juco last year....then here were his stats:

12.1 ppg (2nd on the team)
70% FT (4th on the team)
56.2% FG (2nd on the team)
              45.5% 3pt (1st on the team)
2.9 reb pg (7th on the team)
1.5 assist pg (2nd on the team)
              1.75 to's pg (6th on the team)

I am liking the FG and 3pt%! Needs to cut down on to's and work on FT's. Guess we'll see what he can do for Midland CC this year.

It's obvious they like the kid as fast as they moved on the offer.

That's pretty good stats for a freshman especially. He sounds like a good shooter. Heck, 70% Free throws isn't too bad for our team ... lol

I apologize for the spelling error in his name. I changed it.

The article on the Utah camp said that his aggressive defense and ability on offense to get to the rim consistently has blossomed Simmons into a can't miss for the Utes. They talked like they expected to get a commitment from him soon after the early July camp.

He attended the 2008 Texas A&M camp where they identified him as a high major level recruit after JUCO play. He showed highly athletic ability with a superb outside shot. A play maker who can create off the dribble and get to the rim.

Since he was in the class of 2008 in Houston, he probably knows Toure. Of course Utah also has a 2008 player from Houston, Chris Hines.

More than likely WSU was recruiting him to some degree when he was in HS. Besides schools already mentioned in his HS recruitment, one article said a number of "mid-majors" were in contact. The way Marty Gross covers Texas, I doubt if he missed him.

Sounds like a high energy guy who has good handles, can really drive to the rim and is very effective inside, but can hit the outside open shot.

I think Hines was a teammate of Murry at Klein Forest, no?

45.5% 3-pt is not too shabby
