  • Last scholarship for 2010

With EO giving a solid verbal and Coy leaving the team, who's your top choice for the last scholly?

maybe that former teammate of EO....Raphael Akpejiori? Although, I guess he did have an injury of some sort. Also, would we be looking to replace Coy with more of a 3/4 that has some range? Truthfully I don't know, I haven't really taken a long look at 2010 recruits...guess I better see what tropicalshox has put out there.

I've put out there for sometime that Raphael seems to be the natural for a scholarship if one was available. The one downside IMO is I think we need a ready to go 3 more than a 4.

I don't have any clue however as far as an inside source on who it might be, but I don't think the Coy situation blindsided the staff. I think they are probably ready to get somebody committed very soon. Other than Raphael, I don't see a whole lot on or off the 2010 summary that we might have lined up. Some outside chance it might be Rayvonte Rice. He said he is going to take a couple of more trips before deciding and no clue where to.

I don't like losing Coy, but PS is probably right that playing both sports lessened his value to the basketball team. I look forward to getting another 2010!

Three on the 2010 summary that would not shock me to see in for visits are Frank Williams, Mark Braden and Trayvonn Wright.

A 2010 player that has some WSU interest who isn't on the summary and has not been mentioned is Deshone McClure from Jacksonville, AR. He is a 6-2 SG who played with the Arkansas Wings.

            A PS:

Coach Jans is hitting the road again. Could be for a home visit. It's that time of the year for 2010 recruits. If that's it, I'm sure Marshall will also be going. It would indicate strong interest for a recruit North of Wichita or Missouri or Arkansas since it's Chris' area.

Perhaps it's for an open gym, but I'm not up on the rules for them.

As I look through the 2010 list, these also look to be interesting possibilities: Kyle Schlake, Nick Hinton, and Nathan Scheer.

Akpejiori is north of Wichita. Bel Air actually....

The only downside for Akpejiori is that WSU is looking at having 4 PF next year in Ellis, Durley, Blair, and Hamilton already.

Can you afford to carry 5 PF on a 13 man roster?

Could you redshirt him? After that you'd lose Durley, Ellis and Blair. If for some reason Ellis doesn't progress Raph may be able to take his time as a FR. And there would be a lot of PT available after his first year.

I think you can when 3 are seniors....but I don't think that is the direction we are going right now anyway....HOWEVER, that is my opinion only and I would absolutely defer to DTSB, Trop and SG22 for more accurate recruiting information.

Will Johnny's scholarship be for the year or only the fall semester? If only for the fall, we could accept a mid-year transfer, just like Johnny did.

6'5 SF (per Rivals) from KC area that came to the elite camp last summer.

Does anyone know if Coy's schollie was on a annual or semester basis? I always assumed a schollie was for a whole year, and not on a semester basis, but could be wrong.

Question - Can the coaching staff recruit someone right now to play the whole 09/10 season? Or is only the second semester the only option.

And if not for this season at all, then just for next year?

I hate to lose the height he would brought to the 3 position, as most High School graduates are in the 6'3" to 6'6" range for the 3 position.

We need a hot shooting athletic 3 that is 6'6" to 6'8 in height, IMO. The 3 position is one that takes a lot of corner 3 shots.
