  • Roosvelt Jones verbals to Butler

Roosevelt Jones has confirmed that WSU is recruiting him. He is a 6-3 SG/SF from O'Fallon, IL. He looked very good this summer playing for the St. Louis Eagles. Albany, Iowa State and St. Louis are also in the picture. He currently likes St. Louis.

He is a hard working, hard nosed, high energy type player. A strong rebounder, can drive and post up and is great in transition. Not currently a strong outside shooter.

At 6'3" he needs to lose the post up part and concentrate on the outside shot part.

Exactly, a SG or SF position in themselves demand that the player be a good outside shooter. Sounds like he is a short PF type player, rather than a SG or SF.

He does have a few years to grow...

And you don't have to be a good shooter as a SG/SF if you bring other things to the table. And the ability to post can still play an important role for a guard.

two guard and small forward are two positions you definitely need to be a shooter.

Again, not entirely. It also depends on who else is on the court. They're both positions that you can be a slasher and have a lot of success. The ability to post up other guards is also a good thing. We saw that with PJ. Sure, being a good shooter is nice, but there have been plenty of good players who weren't great shooters but had a very good ability to get inside the D and do damage that way.

Jones' recruiting has expanded with several schools now tracking him. He will be visiting SIU and Butler in the near future. I'll list all the schools in the summary.

Impressive stats for a 6'3" guard who doesn't have a midrange jumper (or from 3), but that is HIGH SCHOOL BALL, and not div-1 college ball where the players are all taller and it is harder to score driving to the basket.
