  • I hope this kid has mental toughness. This team is seriously lacking that and we need some.

    • Jake played in what was probably as physical a high school game as I've ever seen. New Prague ran a triangle and two trying to contain Jake and Ross Travis. Jake seldom saw the ball inside but managed 10 points and by my count, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, 1 turnover. I don't think Jake had more than 5 or 6 FG attempts all night. He missed 4 of his 1st 5 free throws, but made his last 5 for a 6 - 10 night. His face showed the wear and tear of the game later with a couple long, deep scratches.

He will be at the game at UNI tonight.

He managed to get fouled during the 1st shot of a 2 shot foul, something I've never seen before. He might have gotten in the 1st shove, but when it was all over he and his opponent were both on the floor and the opponent was called for a foul. It took New Prague's coach a minute to finally make the officials understand that it was the 1st of a 2 shot foul and they finally let the shooter take his 2nd shot then Jake was able to make 2 shots.

Oh, by the way, after falling behind during the 1st half, Chaska hit a 3 at the end of the half to pull to within 3, then lit it up the 2nd half and won by 25 (73 - 48). They cleared the bench at about the 2:30 mark, just after Jake make his last 2 free throws.

      • Thanks 150946shox for this report. How do you think Jake will do at the Major College level in your opinion?
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I see Jake as good off the bench next year and better his soph year. By the time we've had him for 4 years, we'll be thrilled that he chose to come here. I believe his shot is not a great deal different in quality than Kyle Wilson, but he may prove to be a stronger rebounder than Kyle. In the 2 games I've seen, he has a good nose for the ball and is a strong battler.

I don't see him as a 3. Strictly a 4 in my opinion. A little undersized, but I think he'll do well. He will pass well inside and will be able to pop out and shoot the 3, or mid range shot along with his inside moves. Will have to play strong position defense inside. I think he'll learn to do so.

I'll also mention that he struck my wife and I as a really nice young man. I'm happy that he's coming to WSU.

From what I saw, I think Jake and his father really enjoyed themselves at UNI. Lots of smiles.

As Trop noted, Ross is headed for Penn State. He is certainly D1 talent. He's a real stud athletically. He has been inconsistant and has had a lot of injury problems in the past, but the talent is obvious. If he can harness the talent and stay healthy, he'll be a really good player for Penn State. He'll likely be a 3 in college and he can certalnly go inside and rebound, but can also bring the ball down the court. He's a good ball handler, he's strong and he can leap. I would have loved for him to come here with Jake.
