  • 2011 RECRUITING SUMMARY

    2011 RECRUITS:

Recruits: WSU probably has, or had some level of interest in the player beyond just sending letters. If a recruit has committed verbally or by LOI to another school, he is taken off this list but can be found in "Links."

Four open scholarships are projected for 2011.

Updates within the last 7-10 days are color coded in red.

Recruits who have been offered by WSU are colored coded in yellow.

    COMMITS TO SHOCKERS:

    Evan Wessel 6-5 (KS)

Aound 13 ppg this season. This year he is playing PG and SF for Heights. He is still growing. Could play anywhere from a 1 to 3 in college.

His grandfather was a basketball player and father a football player for the Shockers.

He looks to score. He does handle the ball well although he does not have great speed and quickness.

    Offers: None

Schools with interest include LSU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, SMU
So far Fields is having a good H.S. season.

    Here are some highlights:

    Offers: WSU, Creighton

Schools with interest include Tulsa, George Mason

It's down to WSU, Colorado and Creighton. He is planning official visits to all three. Colorado has not yet offered.

Isaac McCoy 6-0 (AR) Interest ?
Scouting Report: The super fast pg is a basketball/football star

He is leaning to basketball for college.
    Last update: 3/26/10

    SHOOTING GUARD:

Josh Oglesby 6-5 (IA) Interest: Low
Scouting Report: Ranked #4 in state by Iowa Preps for the class of 2011.

Offers: Northern Iowa, Indiana State, Albany, South Dakota State

Schools with interest include Iowa, Iowa State, Middle Tennessee, Wisconsin, Creighton, Missouri State, Colorado State, Kansas, Minnesota, UCLA, Arizona State, USC, Kansas

Oglesby is taking a Fall, 2009 unofficial to Wisconsin. He will visit Creighton on December 6th. A trip to UNI is likely. He visited KU where he sister is a student and Self says he will watch one of his games this year. WSU's involvement with Oglesby may be minimal.
    Last update: 12/2/09

Travis Perry 6-2 (IA) Interest ?
Scouting Report: Around 9ppg as a sophomore. Ranked #7 in state by Iowa Preps for class of 2011.

    Offers: None

Schools with interest include Drake, UNI, Creighton, Wisconsin, Iowa, Wright State

Pery will also be recruited for football, probably by Big 10 and Big 12 schools.
    Last update: 7/11/09

Hayden Hoerdeman 6-2 (IL) Interest: Medium toLow
Scouting Report: This deep range shooter has a great motor. He is a gamer and competes all the time. A Rival's 3 star and their 24th ranked SG.

Offers: Illinois State, Eastern Illinois, Western Michigan

Schools with interest include Illinois, Iowa, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Butler, Evansville, Ball State, Dayton, Iowa State, SIU, Harvard, Princeton, Western Michigan, William & Mary, Xavier, Missouri State, Oakland, Albany, Indiana, Indiana State, Evansville

Hoerdemann is expected to wait deep into the recruiting process to gather offers before making a decision. Has high interest in Harvard due to academics. He appears to be a highly sought recruit for conferences like the MVC but maybe he wants a BCS school. Non-BCS schools appear the hardest after him at the moment.

As of 3/27/10 here is an updated listing of schools currently invovled with Hoerdemann: Western Michigan, Davidson, Harvard, Princeton, VCU, Northwestern, ISU, UNI, Holy Cross, SIU, Butler, Wichita State, Missouri State, Oakland, Evansville, Lehigh, Penn, Northeastern, William and Mary, Lafayette, and West Point.
    Last update: 3/27/09

    Dominique Raney (OK) Interest ?
Scouting Report: Crossovers, drives and jams can wow you. He has explosive athleticism and ability to create his own shot. Deep range on the jumper. Last year played under the shadow of X. Henry. This year many think he will be one of the best in Oklahoma. His recruiting stock will probably depend on a good HS year.

    Offers: None

Schools with interest include Marquette, Oklahoma State, Missouri State
    Last update: 4/10/10

    A. J. Price 6-3 (TX) Interest: None
Scouting Report: This DFW area player is TexasHoops' 20th ranked player. Real first name is Antonio. His reported height might be way off. I've seen him list this summer as 6-0.

    Offers: Texas Tech, TCU

Schools with interest include Tennessee, Oregon State, Oregon, Iowa State, Georgetown, Texas-Arlington, SMU, Davidson, Albany, Wright State, Washington, Oral Roberts, San Diego

No confirmation, but he probably attended the August Shocker elite camp. Coming out of the camp, Rivals list interest between Price and the Shockers as high. It is now listed as medium and the last three schools on the interest list have recently been added. I thought he would probably get a Shocker offer soon after the August camp, but that didn't happen. As time goes by and seeing results of early season games I have doubts about how much the Shockers are interested.

Lastest list of schools are WSU, Providence, Santa Clara and SMU
    Last update: 4/14/10

Corey Hilliard 6-1 (MO) Interest: ?
Scouting Report: A tough KC area SG with handles to play the point. Has a nice pull up jumper. A Scout 2 star.

    Offers: Missouri State

Schools with interest include Kansas State, Loyola-Chicago, Minnesota, Missouri, Texas A&M, Creighton, Iowa State, Tulsa, UMKC, Baylor
    Last update: 2/5/09

Roosevelt Jones 6-3 SG/SF (IL) Interest: Medium to Low
Scouting Report: A hard working, hard nosed, high energy player. Strong rebounder who can drive and post up.

    Offers: None

Schools with interest include Albany, St. Louis, Iowa State, Southern Illinois, Butler, Marquette, Iowa, Arizona, Evansville, Missouri State.

Near the beginning of his recruitment Jones favored St. Louis. He is taking unofficial visits to Butler and Southern Illinois.
update: Currently likes SIU and Missouri State.
    Last update: 4/4/10

Traevon Jackson 6-2 (OH) Interest None
Scouting Report: 14ppg, 6rpg, 4apg on a strong HS team as a sophomore. Son of former State star Jimmy Jackson.

Schools with interest include Butler, Notre Dame

DeAngelo Harrison 6-3 (TX) Interest: medium to none
Scouting Report: TexasHoops #15 ranked player and Houston Preps' #4 for the Houston area. A Rivals' 3 star. He has gained weight and is looking like a high major prospect.

    Offers: Oklahoma State, Missouri

Schools with interest include Texas A&M, Oregon, Marquette, Arizona State

I'm sure the Shocker would love to have DeAngelo, but no information on his interest in WSU. The Shockers took a look at an open gym. His top five: Missouri, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Arkansas, Alabama.

DeAngelo is the younger brother of Dre Harrison who the Shockers had interest in 2009. Dre is a freshman at San Janicto JC in Texas.
    Last update: 11/5/09

Malcolm Brogdon 6-4 (GA) Interest: Medium to High
Scouting Report: A Scout 2 star, no rating yet on Rivals. 15.8ppg, 10.7 rpg as a sophomore. Is having a great junior year. Brogdon is a crafty scorer with a very balanced overall game.

    Offers: None

Schools with interest include Auburn, Georgia, The Citadel, Virginia Tech, Wyoming, Georgia Tech

Brogdon attended Shocker Madness. The Shockers are probably going for an early commitment and I believe there is still a high level of interest by Brogdon. He is having a good H.S. season for his new team and is thought to be one of the best players in Georgia. More than likely he has offers and other schools involved than those listed as he is being hotly recruited.
    Last update: 12/24/09

    Offers: None

Schools with interest include Marquette, Minnesota, Arkansas, Michigan
Mays also plays football and is starting to attract Big 10 and Big 12 interest due to his raw talent as a receiver.
    Last update: 9/19/09

He was at the August Shocker elite camp and has come back to see a Shocker game. Has taken unofficals to Wisconsin and Iowa. His top three in December were WSU, Northern Iowa and Iowa who were recruiting him the hardest. A decision is not expected until next summer.

White is having a very good H.S. season.
    Last update: 2/12/09

Ryan Spangler 6-5 (OK) Interest ?
    Scouting report: N/A

    Offers: None

Schools with interest include Liberty, ORU
    Last update: 8/25/09

Nevin Johnson 6-6 (TX) Interest ?
Scouting Report: Currently ranked #8 in the Houston area for the class of 2011 by Houston Preps. He can make plays off the dribble and get to the rim. He fills up the stat sheet. Athletic and long he has a great upside but will need to add weight, strength and become more aggressive. Also will need to dedicate himself to defensive work. He could possibly play the 1-3 positions. With added strength, aggression and dedication to defensive play he could become one of the best. Now ranked #24 by TexasHoops.

    Offers: WSU, UTEP

More than likely the Shockers believe they have a good shot at Nevin.
    Last update: 2/4/10

Daniel Grieves 6-5 SF (MS) Interest: ?
Scouting Report: Son of his HS coach. Averaged 24 points, 12 rebounds as a sophomore.

    Offer: Southern Mississippi

Schools with interest include LSU, Rice, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi, Ole, Miss
    Last update: 10/1/09

Ross Travis 6-7 (MN) Interest Medium to Low
Scouting Report: Rivals 133 ranked player the #1 ranked player in Minnesota. AAU and high school teammate of Jake White who has been offered by the Shockers. Travis has been listed as short as 6-4 this summer so his height is questionable.

Schools with interest include Iowa, Stanford, Minnesota, Georgetown, Kansas, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Colorado State, Purdue, American, Liberty, Ball State, Penn, Gonzaga, Wisconsin-Green Bay

    Scouting Report: N/A

    Offers: None

Schools with interest include Iowa State, Stanford, LSU, Michigan, Marquette, Minnesota, Penn State, Northern Iowa

At this point all of the above schools including the Shockers are probably just following Pomlee's progress.
    Last update: 10/30/09

Joshua Richardson 6-5 (OK) Interest ?
Scouting Report: One of the best players at the Future 150 National Camp in Atlanta and labeled a high major prospect. Plays on perhaps the best HS team in Oklahoma.

    COMBO FORWARD:

James Siakam 6-6 (Il) Interest Low to None
Scouting Report: Developing a perimeter game, he is now projected as a combo forward. Explosive around the basket. He is currently Rivals 96th ranked player in his class. Lack of height and ability to play the perimeter are the only questions.

Offers: Southern Illinois, Vanderbilt, Purdue, Boston College, Wisconsin, Arizona, Florida State, Virginia, DePaul, Harvard

Schools with interest include Indiana, Nebraska, DePaul, Illinois, Stanford, Harvard

At this time, I don't believe the Shockers are a serious part of his recruitment.

An injury will sideline Siakam for most of the year. He is now back on the floor but not at 100%. Vanderbilt, Harvard and Illinois have been involved the most as of late.

He has now officially reclassified to the 2010 class

Offers: Southern Illinois, St. Louis, Butler

Schools with interest include Marquette, Missouri, Missouri State, Illinois, Minnesota

IMO is looking for a BCS school. If he goes to the MVC or similar conference he would probably be considered a very good get.

    Offers: None

Schools with interest include Iowa, Illinois, Northern Iowa, Bradley, St. Louis, Xavier, Albany, Missouri State, Western Michigan, Ball State

Bielfeldt has strong family ties to Illinois. The Bielfeldt Administration Building on campus is there due to major contributions from his family. He has "always wanted to play there."

Only Western Michigan's interest appears heavy at the present time. The rest appear to be waiting to see how Biefield develops and/or grows. Biefeldt recently visited Ball State.

Illinois is the likely destination for Bielfeldt as a walk-on.

    RECRUITS WITHOUT PUBLIC ACKNOWLEGEMENT:

The following are players the Shockers are involved with but public acknowledgement of the recruitment has not been made. Prospects that have received letters from the Shockers are also included.

The list is in order of newest addition at the top to oldest at the bottom.
    Last addition: 3/26/10

Jordan Holdsworth 6-5 forward at Carroll, IA.
Receiving letters from WSU, Crieghton and South Dakota State. Recruited by U of Mary and Brair Cliff.

Karl Hall 6-8 Freshman Center at Middle Georgia College
Hall left a big impression on the Shocker staff at the national NJCAA tournament at Hutchinson in 2010. He is being watched by several schools. He will need another year at Middle Georgia College.

Dre Harrison 6-1 CG now playing his freshman year at San Janicto JC in Texas
Placing Dre's name here based on a hunch and that WSU recruited him some last year when he was a H.S. senior. We now have interest in his younger brother DeAngelo who might be a high major prospect. After two years of JC Dre has good chance of being a strong D-1 player.

Kelly Madison guard at Hoover Hi in Des Moines, IA.
He is receiving letters from WSU, Iowa State and North Dakota State. Others are also probably involved.

Avery Dingman 6-4 SF Branson, MO.
I thought I had Avery on this list sometime ago but didn't find him on a search. KCPREPSHOOPS on twitter indicates he has interest from Iowa, Missouri and several unnamed MVC schools. Wichita State is one of them. Missouri State and Drake are others. I believe he mostly played on Branson's JV last year. He is a slasher.

    I guess I better add he is a slasher/danker.
And I also better add he can shoot the 3. The kid is lighting it up at Branson:

Joel Lindberg 6-1 Combo Guard, Superior, WI.
Receiving letters of interest from WSU, Drake, UNI, others. Unknown if recruiting has gone to the next level. 14.8 ppg, 5.8apg, 2.5 steal a game as a sophomore.

Ryan Manuel 6-5 SF/SG Fort Bend, TX. (Austin Hi)
Shockers looked at him in open Gym week of 9/13. Degree of recruitment is unknown. Also taking looks at Manuel are Bradley, Boise State, The Citadel, Southeastern, San Diego and Stephen F. Austin. Haven't heard much about him but saw he dropped in 29 in an early season game.

Daruis Perkins 6-2 Combo Guard (Hollywood, FL. Chaminade Madonna Prep) A super quick scoring 3 star top 150 guard with interest from Florida State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Virgina Tech, Penn State.

David Kravish 6-9 C (Lee Summit North, MO)
At 6’9”, Kravish was raw as a sophomore but has greatly improved over the summer with markedly better feet and ability to post-finish around the basket. He still is thin-framed but can run and jump, and he should be primed for a big season. He also has interest from Colorado State, Iowa State, UNLV and "most of the Missouri Valley."

Acie Vance 6-0 PG (Tupelo, MS.)
    Also excels on the gridiron.

Hooper Vint 6-10 C (Van Buren, AR.)
Son of former Arkansas player Bobby Vint. Averaged 7 ppg as a sophomore. He has the interest of Arkansas. This prospect has his own thread (See Links)

Marquel Curtis 6-3 SF (Plymouth, MN Armstrong Hi)
Ranked #23 in the State by Minnesota Preps but some think much more highly of him. Has interest from Iowa State and Bradley. Was at the August Shocker elite camp. Curtis has the interest of Iowa State and picked up an offer from South Dakota in mid-October

Freddie Young 5-10 PG (Brooklyn Center Hi in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area)Ranked #27 in the State by Minnesota Preps. Was at the August Shocker elite camp and played well.

Jawanza Poland 6-3 SG/SF (Hutchinson CC, KS)
Former East Hi standout was Jayhawk Conference East freshman POY at Cowley CC. He has transferred to Hutch with coach Steve Eck where he is setting out a year. Poland is probably eligible for 2010, but as far as I know, he will sit a year and play next year for Hutch. He attended the WSU-Texas Tech game. He has interest from South Florida and Oklahoma.

Alex Zeck 6-2 PG (Leavenworth, KS)
    Spiece MoKan

Jake Ediger 6-5 PF (Washburn Rural Hi, KS.)

Jamie Crocket 6-4 SF (Crete, IL)
Very athletic with quickness and leaping ability. Effective fighting in the post, good at transition scoring and is a defensive playmaker. SIU is involved.
5/5/10 Update: Could be close to committing to Dayton.
    5/12/10 update: Commits to DePaul.

Jose Bonilla "nearly 7 foot" C (South Sioux City, NE.)
    Martin Brothers Select
Has interest from Nebraska, Iowa State
Doesn't have big numbers so far this H.S. season.

Ryan Fucci 6-1 Guard Tate's Creek, Kentucky
Cerebral, athletic guard understands the game and can beat you many ways. He is a team player but can also put up big numbers. He is a big time baseball player, which is probably his best sport, but wants to play basketball at the next level. Went from a token look to a serious D-1 prospect this Summer. His father was Mr. Kentucky in basketball in the 70's
Has interest from UMKC, IUPIU, Evansville, Eastern Kentucky, Wright State

    A. J. Spencer 6-4 SF/SG (Shawnee Mission, KS)
    KC Pump & Run 16U
Spencer can shoot, is extremely long and as a lefty presents problems for defenders when he faces the basket. Most of the Missouri Valley as well as schools such as Santa Clara are interested. There is also interest from Loyola-Chicago, Santa Clara and UMKC. UNI is a known MVC that has interest.

    Macari Brooks 6-2 SG (IL)
Offers from DePaul, Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois, Illinois State, Dayton. Interest from Illinois, Xavier, Ball State, California and others. California and DePaul may be the leaders. Interest in Shockers appears low.

This prospect also has his own thread (See Links)

    D.J. Jackson 5-11 PG/SG (Kansas City, MO )
Spiece MoKan 16U. He is super quick and really gets after it. Takes pride in his defense. Murray State, Wichita State, UMKC, and Central Michigan are known to be interested but it's believe several MVC schools are looking.

Christian Ulsaker 6-4 SG (McPherson, KS)
Has been at Shocker elite camps.

Adam Hasty 5-9 PG (Ottawa, KS)
    Attended a Shocker elite camp.

Curtis Okafor 6-4 PF (Prairie View, KS)

Tyler Rambo 6-5 PF Kansas City, MO (Grandview)
Rambo had a phenomenal AAU season with Spice MoKan Elite. This HS season has 16 ppg and 6 rpg. His slashing game is hard to defend. Interest from Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa State, Illinois State, Central Michigan.

    COMMITS TO OTHER SCHOOLS:

Javon Lyles 6-0 Combo Guard (MO) To Northern Iowa
Nino Williams 6-5 SF (KS) To Kansas State
Darius Singleton 6-6 SF (TX) To TCU
Julien Lewis 6-3 SG/SF (TX) To Texas

Jordan Green 6-3 SG (TX) To Texas A&M
Kevin Wagner 5-8 PG (TX) To Texas Tech

Jacoby Harrison 6-5 PF (TX) To Hartford
Derrick Marks 6-3 CG (IL) To Albany

Roger Hubbard was among those invited to the NBA Top 100 Camp. He did not perform well, and reports say he may have been one of the worst PG's there. One report does say they think we was battling an illness.

Deangelo Harrison also played at the camp, and performed very well. Expect his list of suitors to get much bigger and deeper.

Just wanted to offer a little positive reinforcement for what must be a huge amount of work, and a "thank you".

A friend of mine's brother-in-law is the head coach at one of the largest high schools in Texas, and invited me to a HS tournament with at least two of the top 10 teams in Texas. Thanks to this list, I was able to check on our Texas recruits and see if any of them are in the tournament (they are not).

                    Thanks again, Trop (and others?).

I saw this summary http://www.msubearnation.com/forum/s...ITING-RANKINGS on the MSU site. For WSU, they have:
                        Tekele Cotton 6'1, pg [nr]
                        Evan Wessell 6'4, sg [83]
                        Ron Baker 6'4, sg,[walkon]
                        Ede Egharevba 6'6,wing [nr]
                        Jake White 6'8, pf [ 89]
                        Carl Hall 6'8, pf [ #4 JJ, 1st Team D-1 Juco AA]

The funny thing is that ESPN http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bask...state-shockers lists the following:
                        89 Jake White, PF
                        83 Tekele Cotton, SG
                        83 Evan Wessel, SG
                        40 Ron Baker, SG
                        40 Ede Egharevba, SF
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.
