  • Ty Modupe leaving ISU

I hadn't seen this mentioned yet, but the Topeka product who was redshirting this year announced before Christmas that he was leaving ISU.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up. He supposedly had interest from higher profile programs that wanted him to redshirt. So he chose ISU thinking he'd be able to play right away.

If he wants to be close to home, sounds like he might be a good fit at UMKC.

I believe Turgeon recruited him along with Weems and Austin. All three played for Topeka Highland Park.

Speaking of Austin, where did he land after leaving MSU?

I know Modupe was on the radar but I have no idea how much interest there was.

It's a shame that Austin has thrown his chance down the toilet.

Not just any drug offense either...pretty serious stuff.

Austin was booked into the Shawnee County Jail about 1:55 p.m. in connection with possession of opiates or narcotics with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a school, obstruction of the legal process, possession of drug paraphernalia, no Kansas drug tax stamp, driving with a suspended license and failure to stop for a red light.

Austin has officially thrown his life away I think. That's some pretty serious stuff.

This situation reminds of a highly ranked football player years ago for Carter, here in Dallas. He was given a full scholarship to University of Tennessee but before he left for Tennessee, he and some of his buddies decided that they wanted a little spending money. With that, they go and rob a couple of fast food restaurants, netting them a few hundred dollars. He and his buddies wind up in prison.

A few years later, while he is sitting in jail, Tennessee went on, I believe, to win the national championship, and he would have been an integral part, because he was that good.

A life of immense promise was totally wasted!

                  Austin's situation sounds so familiar.

It is sad to see kids throw away these opportunities.

Fortunately there are winners like Ramon Clemente and Graham Hatch to offset these losers.
