He plays in the 7A conference. I'm guessing he made first team all conference.

it may be 7a conference, however, Arkansas Activities Assn. calls it 2008 All State Basketball team with 7 classes.

Wikipedia says they've been organized as 7 classes since 2006.

Having 7 classifications in Arkansas is a joke. I'm really not sure of the reason.

That it is, Charlie, especially when you consider that there are about as many schools in the highest classification in Texas (which has only five) as there are in all of Arkansas. But it does produce a lot of state champions, so maybe that's it -- "Come to Arkansas, where everyone can be a champion!"

Well Texas has a lot of state champions also, 2 for every classification. They have region 1 and region 2 champs in every sport for every classification.

                      So really they have 10.

I agree that Arkansas is too small for 7 classifications though.

I know Kansas having 6 classes is stupid too. 5 at the most but I really think they could live with 3.

                        1A and 2A combine for 1A
                        3A and 4A combine for 2A
                        5A and 6A combine for 3A

That would be 64 schools in 3A, I think 128 in 2A, and God only knows how many in 1A.

I just know winning a state title that only 31 other teams competed for in the first place is stupid. Don't get me wrong it's still an acheivement but is there really that much difference between the 32 schools in 5A and the 32 in 6A? I'm sure the bottom 1/3 of 5A would get smoked by the upper 2/3 of 6A but thats life.

I think 4A already encompasses schools with 300 students and 800 students. Big diff...

I never understood why 5A and 6A were divided like they are. I do think the 64 team system that's used in 4A and 3A works nicely.

Here is the official list for clarification purposes, remember those are only numbers of the top 3 grades for the year.

I agree. 5 and 6 should be together. 4A has schools that are way too big to be mixing with 3A schools. 513 in 4A to 127 in 3A is a very large gap. Too big to make up. Unless they were going to go to 96 team classes and take the top half of 4A into the big one. Which still leaves a very large span.

                              6A - Co-ed Schools 32 Range: 1570-1060
                              5A - Co-ed Schools 32 Range: 1027-519
                              4A - Co-ed Schools 64 Range: 513-203
                              3A - Co-ed Schools 63, *Boys' Schools 1 Range: 199-127
                              2A - Co-ed Schools 64 Range: 127-82
                              1A - Co-ed Schools 104 Range: 81-14

So combining 5A and 6A is the only logical choice.

There are 104 1A schools currently. Some of them are probaby too small to justify having open, or are too close to other school districts and could be absorbed easily. But you couldn't put a 14 person HS into the same class as a 127 person HS. It doesn't really work well. I know the state had talked about having other districts absord some of the smaller ones and breaking up some of the larger ones, but they never followed through. I believe local districts that came up were Burrton (1a close to several other districts), Wichita, Derby, Newton, Hutchinson were all listed as needing split or something like that.
