Gabe Blair, a 6-8 210 pound sophomore from Kings Mountain (NC) Hope Christian Academy, received his release from East Carolina. The undersized ECU squad had Blair starting at the 5 spot the past 2 seasons, and Blair wants to play at the 3 and 4 spots. He started all 29 games last season and averaged 7.7 ppg and 6.9 rebounds per game while averaging only 23.2 minutes per game. The 6.9 rebounds per game was 5th in Conference USA.

Coach Marshall should be at least somewhat familiar with Blair. ECU has an annual head-to-head series with Winthrop, and Blair started for ECU in their 2006 match-up. Prior to picking ECU, Blair had offers from Colorado State, Tennessee, Massachusetts, St. Bonaventure, and Virginia Commonwealth with Tulsa and Virginia also showing interest. Scout 3 stars.

That's my thought as well. With Griskenas and Clemente graduating after this season, there would also be the opportunity for playing time at the forward spot once he became eligible. So it was worth mentioning Blair as a possibility.

A little more on Blair. Marshall and Grant have indeed known Blair for some time as they recruited him at Winthrop.

Well, if Blair wants to play at a forward spot, I would think that going to a team with a couple of 7-footers might be appealing.

Seems like we had a decent player from there! Does he live there now?

This is a link in the prior article but I'll go ahead and post it also since it gives a lot of info about his senior year at Kings Mountain. He even played a little at the 2 position. It says that Tennessee wasn't just interest but they offered.
