From same town as A.J. Hawkins and I think only a year apart. Different high schools but sure they know each other and I bet they probably played AAU together.

I'm not so sure. Don't get me wrong, I like having talent, but he'd be at the same position and in the same class as Aaron Ellis (since Marshall has said he sees Ellis playing more at the 4).
I guess my concern is having two starter-caliber players at the same position in the same class, creating the potential for an unhealthy rivalry within the team.

KU just won a national championship with two starting caliber post players in the same class sharing minutes.

True, but there are different dynamics at play. Those guys were 4-year players on an elite-level team, both getting solid minutes. Somehow I think Udoh is looking to walk into a situation where he will be the dominant, star post player. At WSU, he'd be competing with possibly three others (Ellis, Stutz, Orukpe) for minutes and prestige.
That said, if he wants to be a Shocker and the coaches want him, that's cool with me.

While you may be right about expectations, it's a little unrealistic. Transfers often find situations that are preferable to what they left, but most often don't walk in and take over. None of our last three transfers (Bradley, Wilson, and Thomasson) came in and dominated the minutes at their positions. I believe that out of the three, Bradley probably started the most games his first year (maybe half?), but didn't play more than 20-22 min.
Hawkins will hopefully prove to be the exception, but I also hope that our program is quite a bit ahead next year in terms of returning talent and overall program stability from what Hawkins is coming into this year.

We were very much involved with Udoh until Michigan became a legit option for him. He fell in love with them quickly. If we were to add a transfer I'd rather have Udoh than Patterson. I know Marshall wants Ellis to play 4 and I expect him to get more and more minutes there. But having the option of him at the three still doesn't hurt and adding more post depth is always nice. Especially if Ehimen doesn't make it. And it wouldn't suck having a nice defensive presence inside like Udoh. Nearly 3 blocks a game in any conference is pretty good.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
