He's 14 and a 6'2" guard? I trust the coaching staff is well aware of this kid, and vice versa.

Apparently Campus won't let his Dad join staff as an assistant. Campus is open district so no restrictions on who goes there--otherwise Daylan goes to East.

Mr Jones is a very good coach in his own right and kid has been working out with Campus players all summer. Quite a stir this has created

Not sure I exactly follow this. I take it that Daylan must live in the East High School District. However, because Campus has no restrictions and is not part of the Wichita School District they will accept Daylan as a student and apparently Campus is where Daylan would like to play. Not sure why Campus not letting his Dad join their coaching staff is significant unless you are saying his going to Campus was dependent on Dad being added to the Campus coach staff and as a result of that not happening he will end up at East.

So is he going to East or going to Campus or is that still up in the air?

It used to be that KSHSAA required a student to live inside the district boundaries or make a bonafide move inside the boundaries. If not, the student had to sit out 16 weeks (one semester) Has that changed?

It appears East and yes the enrollment at Campus of Daylan was contingent upon his father getting an assistant coach position there. So you are right in your interpretation.

The head coach at Campus had bought off on this and they would be getting a very good asst coach and a top 40 player in his age group. Unfortunately or fortunately if you are East, the Campus principal vetoed the deal.

If the school district announces open enrollment, I believe anyone can go there but not sure what allows them to do that-special curriculum, etc.?

Incoming freshman arent subject to the transfer rule if i understand it correctly. It is only after you establish a school.

I don't know if the rules applied to USD 259 since it has multiple schools, but at one time, the athlete had to live inside the boundaries of the school he/she attended. Some athletes tried to get around that rule by moving to an close friend or relatives address, but if that student didn't live every night at that address, they would be considered to be ineligible.

That is why there have been recent discussions that private schools like Collegiate, Trinity, Bishop Carroll, and Kapaun (in order to be a part of KSHSAA) compete at a classification above their enrollment.

Many states have a separate classification for Private Schools and separate Championships and some states require the policy I mentioned above. Kansas does not have enough Private Schools to do the first, but has considered the second.
