  • Ty Lazenby 6'5 SG 2017 JUCO to Oklahoma

Ty Lazenby is a 6'5 SG sophomore at Northern Oklahoma Enid JuCo. His recruiting took off this week when he dropped 40 points on Southern Idaho at the 1st round of the NJCAA tournament. He averaged 23 points per game at NOE this year while shooting 36% from three and 86% from the line. He's heard from Memphis, Nebraska, Penn St, Texas Tech, Tulsa and WSU within the last week. http://247sports.com/Player/Ty-Lazenby-46040213

Here's a story the Hutch newspaper ran on Ty this week. http://www.hutchnews.com/sports/juco...c6125297a.html

Wonder if HCGM could work his walk-on magic with this one?

I like his size for SG, but I'd like his 3FG% to be higher than 36%. I know they don't play defense in JuCo like they do in D-1, so a lot of his 3-pt shots should be wide open, plus being 6-5 should make it easier to get open shots. If he was on the WSU team, he'd be around 7th in 3FG%.

Would not be surprised if this guy was a 3 year player to play 2 on scholarship. I know we joke about that but he is a legit candidate.

He only has 2 years of eligibility left.

Oklahoma kids do qualify for in-state tuition at Wichita State, so maybe Ty could pay his way year 1 and take a scholly in 18-19.

A redshirt year doesn't use a year of eligibility....or did he already use his redshirt year somewhere?

If 3G can get a kid to redshirt and pay his own way for a year while said kid has offers from a P12 and B10 school I will be impressed beyond words.

Actually, only kids in the OKC and Tulsa MSAs qualify for in-state tuition. Ty is from Glencoe, OK, so he would receive a 33% discount on out-of-state tuition. Either way -- it's not happening without a scholly. He's got solid D1 offers.

                        Why would he redshirt?

Not doubting you, but why on earth, is the Oklahoma rule like that?

I don't think he would, that's why I would be beyond impressed. @shoxlax: usually knows what he's talking about though.

So he could play in 18-19 when we needed him the most and learn our system.
