  • David Ladwig, G, Berean Academy, 16

David is a well coached scoring machine. I have heard through the grapevine that he wants to walk on next year. I think he might have a shot. Remember his name.

6' point. Can shoot really well and is really fast. I know he visited a practice a couple months ago.

Too bad his season's over. I noticed he won the 2A 110 yard hurdles last year. Could he potentially get a track scholly and walk on in BB? As a reigning Kansas 2A champ in this event, his times might be good enough, but I must admit I know nothing more about him than what I Googled.

His season is over? They still have post season.

This is what a PG highlight reel should look like.

According to what I saw on MaxPreps, Berean lost to Hillsboro 54-30 in the regionals. Of course, MaxPreps is notoriously wrong, so if they are still playing, please let me know, I'd like to follow him.

I don't know Berean's schedule, but Hillsboro is 3A and Berean is 2A, so they would not be playing each other in the post-season.

This Ladwig kid wouldn't be the first walk-on at WSU from Berean, actually.

Berean just played Remington in front of a standing room only crowd. I work a mile north of Remington, and the buzz about this kid is pretty loud.

His coach Louis Wiebe is a local guy that takes the farm boys (some have a hard time dribbling and running at the same time) and turns them into a good team every year. He is a really, really good coach. David is coachable and has been well coached so it's not unlikely that he could get a spot on the team.

Looks like a fun kid to watch.

Do you know when they play again? I watched the tape on this kid and think he would be a really nice walk-on.

I can't figure that would be allowed. Would think that could be abused, but I could be wrong. Can't figure he would be able to actually go to school while performing 2 sports that run in similar seasons (Indoor is December to March, Outdoor is March through June)

Johnny Coy gave it a short try, didn't he?

Tueaday night at home against Goessel.

Hillsboro is 2a this year and they are in the same sub-state.

Matt Shultz was the other walk-on from Berean Academy during the Smithson years.

David missed almost all of Soccer with a foot injury, but seems to be fully recovered.

He can take over a game if he needs to. I have seen him play a few times, and think he could be a good walkon.

Shultz sits in front of me at Koch.

Coach Rainbolt has 12.6 scholarships to divide among his male Track & Field (including XC) members. He has 58 men on this year's roster. Those scholarships no doubt get spread pretty thin. Not sure he would want to use any of his minimal scholarship allotment on an athlete who is only available during the outdoor season unless he could win you 3 or 4 individual events.

Now Preston Carrington did it but I believe he was on a full ride basketball scholarship and just participated in the outdoor long jump for fun (I guess making the 1972 Olympics would be considered fun).
