  • Based on a quick web search it looks as though the name of the high school in Newark AR is Cedar Ridge. There doesn't appear to be a Newark HS.

C'mon, That's like comparing apples and oranges. Newark was not misspelled and Cedar Ridge H.S was mentioned in his bio. :)

                • he's kind of a basketball machine. i wouldn't be surprised if he eventually scored 30 points in a game.. this year, as a freshman.

                  • I heard Mike Kennedy compare him to Jake Odum last night. Will all due respect to Odum - AR is a much better all around player IMO. I think the comparison to Grayson Allen is much closer.

But Allen is a complete tool.

I think both those guys wish they were Reaves.

                      • Grayson Allen is stronger and more athletic that Reaves (and probably not as good of a shooter). They're just both white dudes who are around 6'4" and can ball.

                        • Austin is Austin. Just like Fred was Fred and Ron was Ron.

If that wasn't vague enough for you, maybe this will help. All three have indiscernible and indescribable traits that are hard to quantity and qualify as to what made them great. Basketball just looks easy to them, no matter what traits or skill sets "experts" say they might lack.

Going to a different sport, I like to compare it to Michael Carrick of Manchester United. People think he is "too slow" to be an efficient player. However, Micheal Carrick is already 5 yards ahead of you in his mind, because he reads the game so well. Soccer (or football for my non-American or purist folks) just comes easiy to him, so he is able to compete with guys who may be taller, stronger, faster, or more skilled than him.

Well, that was a long walk for a short drink of water. AR will be damn good.

                          • On another note, with all the petitions and protests going on, I think we need to petition and protest the one true great tragedy happening right now....

Change Austin's number to 15; whatever the cost.

                              • AR's Nos

Someone posted something about this on FB last night. I tried to find it this morning, but it's already gone. There is some kind of rating system that takes into account all of the various stats that go into giving each player an overall rating based on a 40-min basis. Using that formulation, Austin has the highest effectiveness rating on the team at 43.5. His "effective shooting percentage" is 0.938.

I'm sure someone will find the source of it. I was so amazed by it that I remembered the numbers this morning.
