(By the way, for those concerned about Reaves's frame, didn't Odum actually redshirt his first year with the Trees?)

As usual, the roster numbers are starting to get interesting. Also, if Reaves does still have work to do on the academic side, whether test scores or whatever, I wonder how his commitment will affect WSU's recruiting efforts with others such as Marcus Ottey. The numbers could get even more interesting if anyone else commits.
Your are correct. Jake did redshirt his freshman year (2009-10) at which time he was listed at 6-4, 170 lbs. As a senior he was listed on the roster at 6-4, 180 lbs. So there is no guarantee a player will be able to add a lot of weight but even if they don't add weight they can still get significantly stronger.

Personally, I think Austin has a higher ceiling than Jake did at least as a scorer and he looks like he has good passing skills. Obviously, we he won't find it nearly as easy to find shots in college and it remains to be seen what kind of defender he can be. There is a reason he was only ranked #26 in Arkansas but the potential is definitely intriguing.

    • This Winter people are discussing him being the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th best in Arkansas.

And 2nd would be to Malik Monk who is the #6 player in the class of 2016 according to both Rivals and Scout. Rivals has 3 players from Arkansas in the top 150 of the 2016 class.

          • Recruiting

This discussion reminded me of something Gregg Marshall once said: "Recruiting services come up with their various rankings using computers, etc. That does not substitute as well as having a coach watch a player play the game". He also said something about his staff being better at it than recruiting services if I recall correctly. Another thing Marshall said is that recruiting is not an exact science.

I also am pretty sure that it says here somewhere on this thread that Marshall went to AR and watched Austin Reeves play, too. Marshall has a pretty good record at developing point guards: Clevin Hannah, Joe Ragland, Malcolm Armstead & Fred Van Vleet. I'm not sure what Malcolm in terms of post season honors but the others all made 1st team All-MVC. Fred has been MVC MVP, a top vote getter for the Bob Cousy Award & is an All-American.

              • I'm not sure Jake Odom scored 70 points in his career at ISU? This kid did it in one game? He did probably average 70 drives to the baseline, jumps out of bounds and somehow finds an open players per game.

That could be taken at least a couple of ways.

                  • I think he was scheduled to visit vcu soon. They will probably accuse us of giving him money like they accused us of when Carl Hall came here and dissed them.

I think that's Marcus Ottey. I don't think any "bigger" schools were seriously pursuing Reaves yet.

Reaves had interest (probably not offers) from Gonzaga, Arkansas, Iowa St, and Texas.

Depending on the recruit, interest could mean anything, something as simple as a letter that the school sends out to every D1 prospect in the country. From reading the Arkansas board it does sound like Mizzou was in to see him a few times though.
