Looks like he'd be well-served to spend a prep year at Sunrise followed by a redshirt year at the school of his choosing to put on some weight...A LOT of weight.

He was 6'8" last spring, so maybe he grew 2 inches.

Prep Hoops is your #1 source for Maryland High School Boys Basketball. We're the leader in player rankings, recruiting info and analysis.

Byers is a very intriguing prospect because of his height, his incredible length, his agility, and his natural ability to protect the rim. He had 15 blocked shots in a game earlier this year and when it comes to rebounding, blocking shots, and scoring easy second chance points, there aren’t many better in Montgomery County. Byers was 4-4 from the FT line and had 10 points in 9 minutes of play vs Whitman. He left the game in the 2nd quarter with a rib injury and didn’t return until mid-way through the 4th. He’s an energy player and a fan favorite. Byers is getting D-1 looks from many schools such as Liberty, Towson, UMBC, and Loyola (MD).
No idea what type of competition he is up against, but 15 blocked shots in a game is downright impressive no matter who it is.

You can help him gain weight and strength. He has a long wing span and looks athletic. He appears to be a low post option. If he is 6'9 or 6'10, and young, it would appear on the surface to be a nice fit with what we need.

Tyjhai Byers 6'10 good upside. Still developing and growing as player. Extra year would give him more time to reach his potential.
