I feel like Shaq's foul trouble should be very correctable. A large chunk of his fouls came from stupid decisions to reach with his hands. He would often be in good defensive position, then commit a silly reach in foul. In theory, this should be way easier to fix than if he was picking up fouls because of being overpowered or unable to move his feet effectively, which are less about smart decision making than about physical ability.

That said, while his particular foul trouble should be highly fixable, Shaq hasn't exactly established the best track record on eliminating bad habits.

Per the above chart, Shaq will be able to play 18.4 minutes before picking up his 4th foul, and 23 minutes before fouling out. I do not expect Shaq to average more than 23 mpg next season.

That's all we need from him is 20 minutes

We are comparing Shaq to guys that are seasoned veterans.

At Shaq's foul rate, he will have 4.4 fouls, after 20 minutes of play.

It causes the Shockers to give up too many points at the foul line. We give more points plus the opponent shoots bonus and double bonus foul shots earlier in the game. (I did not say this well, but I hope you get the drift.)

TMH is so correcto about the reduction of fouls by Shaq. See post #61.

You're right... The foul game is a little part of why we won against Indiana and Kansas...I said little...we managed to get both into foul trouble and weather the storms

He absolutely needs to decrease his fouls and get in top condition, but he will give us 18-22 minutes per game.

FWIW, BWam averaged 1 foul every 4 minutes.

                    Nurger, 1 every 8 minutes.

This is rapidly starting to look like that classic Seinfeld episode where Steinbrenner gets into a bidding war for George with the Tyson chicken guy and they agree to a deal that includes some kind of alcoholic chicken because each guy thinks the other wants him worse.

I'm thinking most people on this board either weren't around for Carr & Levingston or forgot what their experiences were as freshmen. They both got their issues resolved and both had stats similar to Shaq's. Carr was disqualified in about 15 games as a freshman due to fouls.

I'm absolutely sure our coaches can get this fixed. It may be a gradual process, but it will get fixed.

I certainly remember well the foul problems of AC and Cliff, especially AC. As I read this thread, I must have been thinking just like you and wondering how many posters remember the foul problems AC had. I have to admit though that Shaq's 8.8 fouls per 40minutes clearly outnumbers AC's 5.3 (freshman), 4.0 (sophomore), 5.1 (junior) and 4.0 (senior) per 40 minutes. Shaq has to cut down on the fouls dramatically and I believe he will.

@jeff:borzello: Kennesaw State grad transfer Willy Kouassi is looking to set up visits to Pittsburgh and Memphis, per his guardian. Both schools in pursuit.
