The logic on minutes does not always hold true. If it did, you would not see multiple 5 star recruits signing with the UK's, Duke's, KU's, every year knowing that these schools are knee deep in talent and where actual minutes certainly might be at a premium.

Besides, do we really want a 5 recruit who is afraid he is not good enough to earn his minutes the hard way - by beating out our present competition?

Plus, it certainly did not appear to hurt GM's signing some very great looking guards this year who have to know that their minutes are definitely going to be limited playing behind FVV and Baker. Of course in their case, they are going to be schooled by experts.

It will be exciting because the Taylor we recuited will be around for a few years. The thread named center might replace a senior and leave the same year.

Just as a note, I see alot of people talking about shot blocking. It really doesn't matter with GM system. Our system is going to deny post ups, and penetration. Anyone driving on WSU is going to have to change their shot. The shot-blocking ability is just fun stuff for the NBA, and FVV. Lol, sorry Frank Mason.

Ah, you caught me. I just get sick of hearing KU fans talking about true 5's like Embiid, hoping that they will be focal point of a defense. The block is a bailout, not a focal point. But, I forgot I am in a bubble out here, and WSU fans no better. So when I see fans say we need a shot blocker, I kind of barf a lil in my mouth. Shot block is a bail out.(I get dizzy trying to watch it again and again.) Please forgive.

If you are talking one on one, 5 man vs 5 man single matchups, having a shot blocker is a big deal.

What a team really needs is guards that don't need to be bailed out, wings who can stay with anyone, and a 5 man who can emphatically reject weak stuff. It's the difference between a team that wins most of the games and a team that wins pretty much all of them.

I've seen teams break when EO was out there. Not because he really even did anything, but because the ONE TIME they beat our guards, he made the shot impossible. Those games turn into 30 point blowouts of fairly decent teams. They don't just lose, they break. That's why you want one.

Ok, Ok fine. On a nice screen, you might need Carl Hall to turnaround, and Cle to come from the weakside. I don't know all the deets on the gap-man screen defense. It's the added benefit for sure. I think we all see that. Like I said, not a focal point. Barf. Mouth.

I agree it's a bailout in a lot of cases. Ron Baker has a crazy amount of blocks for his size and position, but many come because someone got beat.

I kinda wonder if he doesn't lull people into thinking they've beat him:

He has got his hands on the top of nearly all those. Lol. NO way there going up. And I like Kouassi, but I just don't know if he's worth investing in. I could be wrong. I don't think he is a big as a shot blocker as we think. Could be wrong.

RB can't leave the ground unless his tongue out.

Having a good shot blocker enables your wings to take more chances with steals. It's an important part Coach Marshall's defense. Another reason having a 6'4" power forward is not ideal. We had one guy that could challenge the shot instead of 2 which resulted in a lot of foul trouble.

I will respectfully say with what I have seen about Gap-Man, and Greggs style, that you are wrong. I am not sure about the congruency of the articles and what is truth of what Gregg does, but assumption are being made about correctness.
We don't give up baseline by trying to cheat the pass, hoping someone covers our butt with a block. We deny the pass, and stay home.

If your wings get beat, a 5 can either block a shot at the rim or draw the charge. Trying to draw a charge is more likely to result in a foul. Plus the other team changes how they penetrate more if they think their shot may be blocked. We played great post defense when we had 3 guys giving up 15 fouls (Coleby, CJ, and Darius) against UK. Now we will also have a bulkier 4 in Kelly.
