  • D'Andre Downey | 6-9 | F | 2015

    Looking at a JUCO big:

@JucoRecruiting: Wichita State and Minnesota are the latest schools to show interest in D'Andre Downey (6'9/F/2015) of Motlow State.

"Coach Sligh made the extra push in recruiting this year with some HUGE additions to help Miller and company in the drive towards a Region Title. 6’9 D’Andre Downey transfers in from McCook (NE) CC where he was an All-Conference player"

"D'Andre Downey scored the final eight points of the contest, including a thunderous dunk off a pass from teammate Clint Nwosuh and six consecutive free throws, as the Motlow Bucks held off nationally-ranked Wallace State 76-70 Tuesday night at Copperweld Arena."

Whoa! 15 and 10 with 4 blocks per contest! Can also shoot a little inside, outside, and from the stripe. All numbers are all very good for a post.

      Other schools recruiting Downey:

      Minnesota
      UCF
      Western Kentucky
      Eastern Kentucky
      Murray St

It would not be surprising to see more high majors get involved.

One would hope that with WSU's inconsistency (to be kind about it) inside, the case for playing time and opportunity would be an easy one to make.

Have to solve the roster size issue, but Marshall always finds a way, and there are certainly possibilities galore. Either this guy or Prodigal Son Perry Ellis would be okay with me.

He would be in Wichita, which probably helped to lead him elsewhere.

there is no planet on which he would be a post. Why is this word so difficult?

"Post" has always meant two positions - center and power-forward. One does not need to be a true center to also be a post. If he plays PF, he's a post. Now, if you want to be more specific and say that Ellis is not strictly an inside-only player (which is clearly what you are trying to say), fine. Most would agree. But at WSU he would be a PF, or more accurately, a stretch-four.

pin, you're splitting hairs and being kind of a jerk about it. Chill.

To me it means being able to play with your back to the basket at times. I thought that is what it meant to everyone. I am not trying to say that Ellis is not an inside-only player. I'm saying he cannot play inside, which seems to be our biggest weakness.

And I think Ellis can play inside with his back to the basket.

I agree. Look at the Big 12 tourney his freshman year

I haven't watched a lot of KU, but I've seen enough to know Ellis has post-moves that would play very, very well in the Valley.

So far only two offers: Eastern Kentucky and Murray State..

I agree with you on Ellis's post moves, but I am curious why there is so much discussion about Ellis playing for WSU? Is this just fan board fantasy talk, or is there some factual basis for this discussion?
