Had he come out as a junior, he would have been the #1 overall pick. He still got paid the following year, but staying in school for his senior year cost him MILLIONS of dollars.

He was projected as the overall #1 after his junior year, came back for his senior year, got injured, and had his draft stock plummet.

I don't follow football that close (I know, I must be weird), but all I knew was that he was pretty much an NFL bust that still made MILLIONS.

Of course, Leinart still got paid, but it still makes the case. Baker, most likely, won't be a real high 1st round draft pick, but either way, high or low 1st round, I'd take the money as a junior.

Plus Baker will have completed 4 years of college so he might well have his degree.

Way ahead of ourselves on Baker, in addition to which this is the wrong thread -- there's already one about his not-so-newsworthy return. Maybe some of you lost track? Once upon a time, this was about Maurice Watson, the Terrier who won't be a Shocker.

This looks like an ideal situation for Watson to pay his own way for a year while he sits the bench, spend one year backing up Fred and one as the starter. I like it!

I have to wonder how a visit to Creighton would look to a recruit. "Here's a bunch of guys coming back who have no experience because they never got minutes. You definitely want to come play for us because we expect to be contenders. Did we mention we have Austin Chatman coming back?"

Hopefully, they are being honest enough with their recruits to explain that this is going to be a full scale rebuild. :)

Hey, while I was on the CU stats page figuring out who is coming back, I noticed that McD got 5 blocks this year. That brings his college career total to 14. Didn't we almost get 14 in one game this season? Pretty sure we had over 10 against Evansville in St. Louis

Heck, the Shockers had 5 players with more than 23 blocks just this year, including 6'3" Baker. Also had 8 players with more than 5 blocks this year. 5'11" FVV only had 4.

Chatman will be a Senior next year, while Watson would sit.

Maybe Greg tells him that he's going to pull in "Big East caliber" recruits now that they're out of the Valley.

I could see how Creighton could be interesting to a transfer PG.
