  • Maurice Watson, Jr. - Boston Univ transfer

    Looks like WSU is involved:

    Derek Piper @DerekPiper247
Talked with Maurice Watson Sr about his son (@ReeceWatson10). They've heard from Wichita St, Houston, Temple, Villanova, Kansas and Drexel.
Don't know much about him, but I've seen tweets indicating he's considered a "high major" player.

Given the current roster makeup, doesn't sound like a fit -- but who knows what will happen by April? Bill Self probably got on the phone as soon as Naadir "The Idiot" Tharpe's picture went viral.

Also had 13 games with 4 or more TOs, was .628 from FT (if you subtract a 9-10 game, he was .595 FT%), average 3 pt. shooter .337, had 4+ FPs in 7 games (fouling out of 2), would start playing Fred senior year (he's averaged 30 mpg his 2 years at BU), and if you think Fred is small at 5'11"/195, he is 5'10"/165.

Not second guessing the coaching staff, just pointing out information.

Lots of indications of attitude issues in that article. Huge Daddy issue. The BU message board has a mention of a "body language" issue that might make him unattractive to the schools he wants to go to.

He may have gotten an inquiry from WSU, but Marshall is pretty good at doing background checks. I don't think this guy will make it past that stage of the evluation from WSU.

He committed to Boston University in August 2011, choosing the Terriers over Cornell, Penn, Princeton, Rice, and Texas Tech.

Here is another article about Maurice Watson, Jr.:

Boston University isn't the biggest draw in Boston. So if you haven't been paying attention, you may have missed one of the most explosive point guards in the country. Mo Watson Jr. is leading the Terriers to the top of the Patriot League.

From the 01/15/14 article: "Mo Watson Jr. came to BU to play for Joe Jones, and the marriage has been great for both parties. - David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports"

                  Well, so much for that.

Looks like he was highly regarded, by ESPN, coming out..

Assuming there are no character issues, he seems like a no brainer to me if we can get him. A potentially better PG transfer option than McConnell was coming out of Duquesne 2 years ago.

It's always interesting to see how these transfer up guys perform against the higher caliber teams on their schedule.

Watson averaged 14.6 points, 6.8 assists and 2 steal against UConn (held Napier to 12 points), Harvard, George Washington, Maryland and St Joe. I'd take him in a heart beat.

He averaged more assists and more steals than anyone on our roster this season.

He also had 8 less TOs in 1100 fewer minutes than our Top 2 PGs.

Assists and steals don't always tell the whole story. A guy can rack up a lot of assists, but be a risk-taker that turns the ball over too much for a system to be effective (Fridge Holman). A guy can get a lot of steals, but take too many risks and give up a lot of easy baskets as a result (every guard at Bradley the past 3 years).
