  • I don't think we could have put a much better foot forward for Willie and the other recruits that were at the Drake game.

They had to be impressed when the crowd practically blew the roof off the placre during the mop up minutes when Evan hit his two treys.

    • Mr. Atwood goes for 31 points last game:

"Willie Atwood and Devante Robinson combined for 51 points, with Atwood collecting his 12th double-double of the year. Atwood scored 31 points and Robinson added another 20 points and 7 rebounds."

      • I don't normally follow players or recruits on twitter but somehow I was convinced to follow this kid. I have regretted it every day since.

His tweets seem to fall into two groups. 1) retweeting fan bases urging him to come to their school 2) retweets of recruiting experts saying "Willie Atwood is being looked at by X university or X university coach was in to see Willie Atwood."

There's nothing wrong with that by any means. It just clogs up my feed with useless info. So I unfollowed him. Problem solved.

              Most recruits are like that.

I probably would be, too, if I wasn't old enough to drink and yet became a sudden kinda-celebrity.

I hope Green is dedicated in the offseason because he has the inside track on getting more minutes due to his knowledge of the system. I too, don't really see where Atwood fits unless he have a problem with one of our other recruits.
You described: A player that's been at the 5 all season. A RS Freshman that's had trouble adjusting to Marshall's demands. Three lightly recruited freshmen, a project JUCO, and a freshman currently averaging 5 minutes per game (walkon John Robert Simon averages 2.4).

I trust Marshall enough to know that a good number of those players are going to turn out to be excellent basketball players. But come on, your reason for not being able to see where Atwood fits is by listing one player proven at the 4 and 5 and five players not proven at all? If Atwood is better than those players, he fits into a vacant starting position at the 4 or 5. If he's not, he fits into a vacant 6th or 7th man position. I don't see how he could not fit, if we have an open scholarship, or someone is paying their own way.

Louisville jumping in is major competition for us.

                • Not saying Atwood wouldn't be a bonus, but I don't think it's necessary to keep the momentum going. Shaq has a year of practice uner his belt and I think he has a lot of talent and upside. With the new guys coming in, odds are that at least one of them will be a pleasant surprise and have good productivity. To say I'm putting stock in each and every unknown panning out is a stretch, but there's a lot of talent coming in with or without Atwood.

                  • Coach wants Atwood, so I want Atwood.

                    • Agreed, Dan -- I'm not worried the way some are about next year's bigs. But it seems apparent that Atwood is a big time talent, and more game ready than some, so if the coaches want him and there's a way for him to fit in terms of scholarships, I'm all for it. He just needs to fit in terms of his attitude and be ready to play Marshall's way, and I assume that if they're recruiting him as vigorously as seems to be the case, Marshall and his staff believe he will be.

I don't disagree with your premise, but Brown, Hamilton and Kelly all had BCS offers, so I wouldn't call them "lightly recruited".

                        • We currently have three 3-star rated players on the team: Cle, Nick and Fred. Shaq was 2 stars. We have five 3-star rated players coming in next year. Not that stars mean everything, but at least these guys aren't total unknowns.

Fred Van Vleet was a 4 star rated player. It was pretty widely publicized as such to the extent that he was regarded as the highest rated player of any frosh in the MVC last year.

Do you follow Nick Wiggins? He doesn't miss any retweets.

Willie is the only player or potential player I've ever followed. Sounds like I made a good choice there.
