If he likes Smart enough, he'll end up at Texas. He's more influential than the big blue K's.

        Mack pulls a Denzell.

        Smart pulls a Turgeon.

        Someone should pull my finger.

I believe this is more than "wanting to follow the coach that recruited him". I think Smart also had to re-opened his recruitment of Mack and worked at getting him to follow Smart to Texas. Make of it what you will, Mack had other quality offers once he de-committed from VCU.

I didn't like MT taking Denzell to A&M, but that was a little different. I think Denzell was going to re-opening his recruitment before MT announced he was leaving. Denzell had people whispering in his ear that he was "too good for a mid major". That doesn't excuse MT as he recruited Denzell with WSU footing the recruitment trail bill. What I thought was really bad is that he let someone talk him into taking him to A&M when he knew Denzell wasn't a sure fire player to play at A&M at that time.

Smart also recruited Mack on VCU's dime. However, Mack was gone regardless once Smart left and Mack had other quality offers.

Neither was out and out theft of player, but I don't like it in either situation.

Am I correct that this seems to be more common these days? When Bowles to A&M happened it seemed like it didn't occur very often.

In those days, WSU coaches didn't get better offers and nobody wanted the players WSU was signing.

I think you're correct. If it ever was an unwritten rule, it's been nearly erased. Err, well, you get the idea.

No surprise here, regardless of what we think of it. Also, out of curiosity, I looked at the article in the Austin paper about Mack, and they're describing him as a 6-6 SF rather than a 6-4 SG.

I'm sure they added the words "5-star" as well when describing the young man. Lol

Granted release from Texas. Sit one, play two transfer. Was averaging 15 points and 5 rebounds per game.

I think if you can get him to come here on his dime for his transfer year, and then pay him for the next two, you try it. Of course, he ain't gonna do that and I dunno what his issues were either.

Based on my reading of the posted article, I'd say Shaq X 3 or 4. Great talent, but a head case. Shaq gave HCGM a lot of gray hair. He's doing much better now, but I would agree. 'Personal reasons' like this translate to lack of effort, either academically or practice-wise.

HCGM's tolerance level for loafing is probably a lot shorter than Shaka's. I respect Shaka as a coach, but I think HCGM is more of a disciplinarian than Shaka.
