His father has serious health problems and he's transferring to get back closer to him and the family. So because of the health issue the NCAA allows him to get closer to home without having to sit out. I believe they mentioned something about this with one of the players from G'Town? during the OSC.

    • A Tennessee player just did it last year I think...

      • MLB draft lists Coy as a 6'7", 205 3B. That's BIG for a 3B. 3B usually requires some footwork and quickness that 6'7" guys don't usually have.

Maybe we could have Casey Blake and Connor Gillaspie have a chat with John.

Sounds like he's finished first semster at ASU. I wonder what his plans are for the second semester?
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Is the rule about transfers being allowed to play right away in baseball still true? If so, he could transfer at semester and play baseball this spring. He then could start basketball next year if the hardship is granted.

          • The highlight film above of John Coy was quite awe-inspiring to say the least.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

              • His Junior year he averaged:

                reb ast blk ppg
                12.0 4.0 5.0 26.0

He was all city, all metro, and all state first team in 2006.

From the highlight video, he looks like he knows how to finish pretty good. He can drive or put up the 3.

We offered him before he signed with Arizona State, so we would have to offer him again, wouldn't we?

                Comment

                • Dunno whether we can offer. He has to contact us first, I suppose. Anybody know how this process actually works?

                  • I believe in this sense where him transferring is already accepted that he can be contacted by other schools.

According to Shockwaves, the school would still have to file a waiver with the NCAA requesting eligibility for the entire year.

So was KC Shox... he's probably working on one of his classic "he'll never come here" posts.

I wouldn't say, "he'll never come here", I will say the probability of him becoming a Shocker is about the same as WSU getting a football team. So yes, there is a chance. :D

                            • According to a family member Coy is down to about five schools. Drake is one of them. He is planning to take some more visits after being at WSU. Visits will probably continue to about Jan. 1st.

                              • Sounds like a good proposition to me. If we can convince Coy to come here, KC will fund the football team. :yahoo:
