After the decision by a Tennessee judge pay for play is now in full swing with what appears to be a no holds barred in upcoming seasons. Unlike with recent NIL happenings ncaa rules? did not allow contact between student athletes (wink wink) unless they were in a transfer portal. Now boosters and NIL collectives and I would assume business entities like Nike can contact kids at any time before, during and after the season. Barring a drastic reset by the power conferences which isn't going to happen because they will form their own League and rules to boot the rest of college sports will crumble under the lack of true leadership. Unless Wichita and Wichita State can find their own sugar daddies sports at WSU will become irrelevant on any National stage. Even where WSU athletics is now at this point I always hold on to hope that WSU sports well return to the levels they have enjoyed in the past. Without those with the resources to join the pay-for-play groups we will be relegated to playing in what appears to be an intramural league of like situated institutions. To tell you the truth this is the worst Monday for me in recent memory and I have had som pretty bad Mondays. Go Shocks

Lane Kiffen at Ol' Miss has thrown his hat in the ring as advocating athletes becoming employees of the university. The ability to sign athletes to contracts for their services that would bind them to a university for a specified length of time at a negotiated price. This is pretty much the model that I can see as a way to provide stability in rosters going forward.

Congress has discussed these (NCAA athletics rules on recruiting and athletics-NIL) issues on and off since 2020 or 2021. If you do a search, even our own Senator Jerry Moran has been somewhat active on these issues.
I would expect that support from elected officials for a solution to this issue, will slowly grow until enough schools/states, and their publics, think that something needs to be done to stabilize college athletics. Here is the latest actions I could find from 2024 on these issues, but my understanding is that there will be a roundtable led by Senator Ted Cruz, on these issues in Congress coming up.
and that Coach Nick Saban will be one who gives testimony on the "present state of college athletics" (below).
Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban is scheduled to appear before Congress on Tuesday as part of Texas senator Ted Cruz's roundtable on college sports.
Saban will be joined by Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne and ACC commissioner Jim Phillips on Tuesday, among others. The roundtable will focus on NIL and its impact on college sports, with Cruz drafting legislation that is intended to codify NIL regulations at a national level.
"I'm confident that this legislative draft represents the best path forward to codifying NIL rights for student-athletes, providing national uniformity for college sports with as little government interference as possible, and preserving college sports as we know it," Cruz said in a statement accompanying his draft.

As you can see, the first one shows a bill that was introduced in the Senate. last month.

I know most of us shockernetters played as an amateur in high school or college, so ...

We demand reparations!!!
When do we want it?

When do we want it?
NOW!
I know the skills I brought to the table back in the day were worth at least a six pack of Olympia per month. AT LEAST a six-pack!! In Biden's inflated dollar economy that's like $6/month!!
But, my 13 year old true self that is gonna try out for the U14 girls national team once I am done with my transitioning is worth probably like $500 to $1000/month through some special websites for women like me that know how to ... well ... perform on camera for a very niche audience. Oops I got sidetracked.
We demand reparations!!!
When do we want it?

The only chance for smaller schools is with elected elites and I'd put that close to 1%.

This movement didn’t begin several years ago with players. That’s like saying that the trans movement began with unhappy kids, instead of Big Pharma, and wealthy liberal elites. Kids and youth have no power or money to push this. Who had the money to take these cases to court?
Oh, I’m sure players were unhappy about it. However, Billas, ESPN, lawyers, sports casters, media, and even P5 schools, etc, were the pushers.

A group of 16 female athletes and also swimmers and Volleyball players are suing the NCAA over their Trans policies. Now just as the other athletes have sued the NCAA over NIL compensation, these athletes aren’t financing this suit.
