  • Brayden Hawthorne - 6'7" SG/SF Class of '25 Offered

Only other offer so far is Radford, but he has taken unofficial visits to UNC Greensboro and Marshall.

Not much out there on this one. I did find one highlight that stood out:

How did he not get T'd up for flexing on and trash talking his opponent? Refs need to cut that crap out and clean the game up at these younger ages.

Pass. I have been pleased with the character and the way the young men handle themselves that Coach Mills has added so far.

I am SO over the flex/humiliation of the opponent at this point..........enough is enough. Play the damned game.

Looking at the video, I'm assuming the opponents (GW) were leading 45-39 late in the 3rdQ after his dunk. Apparently, his "show" sparked GW to finish the game 25-14 to win by the game by 17.

Ya, that "celebration" was absolute trash and unnecessary. I generally don't mind a little celebration or flare when it is warranted and as long as it is not in someone elses face. Hard hard pass on this fella.

I will say that, while I strongly dislike showing up an opponent like that, the video is but a snapshot and might not speak to the young man's overall character. I trust the coaching staff to evaluate players and determine whether or not they fit with the team culture.

I don’t get players celebrating every made 3 pointer.

That’s your job. You’re supposed to make that shot. (Same with football players celebrating every tackle and first down).

Is an accountant supposed to celebrate after every row of and Excel sheet he completes??

Celebrating big plays/blocks/shoots, cool; as long as it’s part of the excitement of the game and team success.

The “look at me” or the new “I am Him” type of celebrations though; No thank you.

                          Great scene from Coach Carter:

"What is wrong with you? What's wrong with all of you? Since when is winning not enough, playing hard not enough? No, you have to humiliate your opponents. Taunt'em after every score. You won 4 games last season. FOUR! What gives you the right to the game that I love with trash talk and taunting? What gives you the right to wear Richmond on your chest and act like punks?"

This post is old, but I'm 100% confident that no studio would greenlight Coach Carter in 2024 because of the messages in the movie. That quote would be viewed as a "privileged" one.
