4*, #55 in his class, according to rivals.

WSU definitely needs help down low

This is the type of player WSU needs to be getting. A 4* player with power 5 conference offers. .

            Yes.

If IB can start landing players rated like this more often, my hesitations would be lowered a lot.

I don't see major upside as suggested by Jake Weingarten. He hasn't done much his first 2 years at Providence. He was a 4-star prospect out of HS but that doesn't mean much at this point. We need a player that is an upgrade to Trey Wade at the 4. I hope Wade doesn't return. He regressed just slightly from his junior year. We need better. Not sure Gantt is the answer by looking at his first 2 years at Providence. I know the coaching staff is way more qualified than I am, but coaches swing and miss all the time. This looks like a pass to me. I hope we find better options.

He played one year. A soph to be.

Looks to me like Trey Wade, but 3" taller (unless one believes Wade is 6'6"). Definitely worth the effort and would be a good pick-up. He'd see minutes (several), but probably not as a starter right away. Maybe by his Junior year?

He's not an instant game changer by any means, but he could have the tools to be a valuable asset at the 4.

I know non-scientific comparisons have holes in them, but as a FR at UTEP Wade made a significant impact scoring 7.2 and 4.2 rebounds playing almost 18 minutes per game. As a FR at Providence Gantt played 12 minutes, averaging 2.6 PPG and 2.3 RPG. As a SO he played 21 minutes, with 4 PPG and 3 RPG. We not only need to replace Wade, but upgrade from Wade. Gantt is not that player. If Gantt comes, we have swung and missed badly with other talented options.

It would take a hell of a sales job to land this guy.

People get jumped on for writing their concerns on IB being of the caliber and having the gravitas to keep Wichita State in the Top 40 (with recruiting, etc.) during the next five years. But then someone criticizes him for recruiting a Former Top 50 player and doesn't receive any push back from the biggest Brown supporters on Shockernet. That's crap.

I have no idea whether Greg Gantt is any good or not (my guess would be that he's very talented, but has character and toughness flaws on how much he wants it much like Josephat Bilau), but if he is as bad as some say, there were a lot of experts who missed on him early on.

I don't look at Brown as anything but a solid basketball coach...he is my coach at WSU. Regardless if it is Brown, Marshall, Self...highly ranked HS players don't always pan out at the level they were evaluated at. It appears that is the case, in my opinion, about Gantt. He has had 2 underwhelming seasons at Providence. I am very confident he isn't our 1 or 2 best options at the PF position coming in next season. We need better. My un-scientific guess is Brown and the coaching staff realized that as well. You have to have backup plans however. My guess is Gantt is that plan. Averaging 3 PPG/3 RPG in his 2-year career at Providence isn't a recipe for success as an improvement to Wade at the PF position.

Unless they play different positions, I think this guy would only serve as a backup to Monzy. (And if Wade returns, that would make him a backup to the backup.)

                              Code:
                              This season:

                              [FONT=Courier New]         MPG PPG RPG  FG% 3FG%  FT% AST
                              Jackson 13.9 5.3 4.3 41.9 32.1 63.8 0.6
                              Gantt 21.4 4.0 3.1 41.5 22.9 69.2 1.7[/FONT]
The only significant area where Gantt looks better is assists. And if you break their numbers down on a per-minute basis, Monzy looks even better.

Gantt probably would be an upgrade from Seymore.
