  • Marvin Clark '14 sf 6-7 offered

Rival's database now shows the Shockers and Missouri State having interest in Clark, a 6-5 SF at Blue Springs Hi, Missouri. UMKC has also been interested in Clark for sometime. Last summer Rivals called him a big time athlete who can be explosive to the rim, can handle the ball some, hit floaters and 3 pointers.

Clark had 32 points in his game last Friday. So, was he at our game?

Haven't seen the kid play, but if he has some range and can be explosive to the rim, I'm intrigued.

Quick, someone go find some YouTube videos :D

As mentioned by @Shocker91: in the Narim thread, Clark is now at Sunrise in Bel Aire. Shocker 91 also says he may reclassify to 2014.

I decided to put this here because I didn't know where else to put it. Marvin Clark seems to be reclassified indeed to 2014. In addition, it seems Larry Dennis (transfer from Wichita East to Sunrise) has also reclassified to 2014. I have mentioned some of these players before, but the only four who are classified as seniors are returners 6'8" Andre Sands and 6'7" Janari Joesaar (who rumors have it may have been placed at Sunrise by Ole Miss) and newcomers 6'9" Sebastian Saiz and 6' Daniel Nwosu from Canada. The rest are all juniors. 5'10" Lourawls (Tum Tum) Nairn and 6'6" Nathan Bain (athletic freak) are both returners. Nairn's recruitment is at a high-major level and Bain's still sits with mid-level interest.

Here is the link to their updated (and much changed from last year) roster:
View the 24-25 Sunrise Christian Academy varsity basketball team roster. Andrew VanDellen, Canaan McElroy, Igor Kocielnik, Matys Michee, Mj Rayner and more.

Here is what I could find on the others:

6'9" Sebastian Saiz: Is a native of Madrid, Spain. Has played for the national team at the U16 and U18 levels in the past.
6' Daniel Nwosu: Native of Ottawa, Ontario. Lefty guard seems to be quick and has a clean stroke. (Highlight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQG9ZFhUCz8)
6'6" Travis Munnings: I found nothing. Listed by Sunrise as a wing. I have heard Munnings as a last name in the Bahamas and Sunrise routinely gets players from there, but that's speculative.
6'11" Valentine Sangoyomi: Nigerian who played at West Virginia Prep two seasons ago and was listed as a sophomore then. Also must have reclassified.
6'6" Rain Koort: Listed as a PF. Hails from Estonia (like teammate Janari Joesaar). Has played on their youth national teams in the past.
6'7" Dovydas Semeklis: Also listed as a PF. Native of Lithuania. Previously listed as Class of 2013 by European Prospects. Must have also reclassified.

I only go into so much depth about Sunrise because of their proximity to us and the likelihood that there will be legitimate Shocker interest in their players for the foreseeable future. I will note that a disturbing trend is the appearance of their players (even their surefire Division I prospects) in JUCOs this year. 6'10" Lawrence Fejokwu, who signed with St. Peter's over offers from LaSalle and Iona, ended up in JUCO. 6'9" sharpshooter Andreas Bigum landed at a JUCO in Oklahoma. So did 6'11" JJ N'Ganga. Those who have been upset at Coach Linsted in the past ("WSU is good pickup" comes to mind.) may have reason. Anyone think he's trying to drive his guys too high, and when they don't get HM offers, he shuffles them off to a JUCO?

We probably were not interested in any of those who went juco. There cetainly was no indication of Shocker interest. FWT Coach Kyle has said "nothing would make me happier" than one of his players becoming a Shocker. That does not mean he wants his top player at WSU. But perhaps he does. That was not addressed. I was informed by a very knowledge person in Oklahoma that Coach Kyle is very close to an assistant coach at Oklahoma. That info came to me before the top recruit at Sunrise became a Sooner. Oklahoma has their eye on Lourawls and others at Sunrise so I'm not very hopeful.

My point about those JUCO kids was that it is a disturbing trend, not that it had anything to do with WSU, who I am sure had no interest. When you have multiple players who had D-I interest (have no clue on offers for Bigum and N'Ganga but do know of several very interested schools and believe they were of that level) and one who signed with a D-I over multiple other offers (Fejokwu), it says something negative about your program. Either 1) They are not eligible due to test scores or 2) They are not happy with their current recruiting situation. Either way, it's very negative. I also believe it is safe to say that Sunrise's other players went at the top of or above the level that their skill dictated. Akpejiori (Miami) and Olaseni (Iowa) have struggled in limited action. Cooper redshirted at Utah State, became a so-so player at Howard JC (TX), and signed with Maine. Katenda's (Notre Dame) inability to play last year, though, obviously had nothing to do with skill (eye injury).

To me, actions speak louder than words; and, for someone looking to recruit the highest level of player possible to his program, Linsted wants his guys to sign at the highest level to show past success to incoming players. It's a cycle. And, to me, that's harmful to the chances of a Sunrise player coming to WSU, as most of Marshall's recent signees have come from guys who also held at least some high-major interest if not offers. As for Oklahoma, good tip. I don't doubt it. Never thought we would see Hield here and certainly don't think we will see Nairn here. There are others to be had at Sunrise, but I think it would be someone a little more under-the-radar than what we've seen. This, of course, is all just my opinion and based on what I have seen.
