I'm not for sure but believe the change in high school requirements have been pushed to 2016 to give incoming freshmen their 4 full years to complete them. So, the juco changes are probably somewhat later also.

It's been less than 100 years for me but I had a little different experience than the one you described at a community college. I'm not sure about your point. Are you saying that everyone that has been at a community college is stupid? Do you think that education is always the same everywhere? I have a feeling that corners are less likely to be cut than before at all schools because of what happened at Creighton and the publicity that they received. I know that WSU spends a lot of money on their academic support for students. Students come to school with a variety of skill levels, cognitive ability levels, study skills, disabilities that are better defined (and strategies to cope) than when you went to school and therefore the opportunities to succeed are more prevalent for more students than ever.

bettter defined? What? My point was that good basketball players stay eligible at juco. They graduate to be eligible at D-1. The end.

        • ok. I don't disagree. Thankfully, we don't have many juco's that haven't been successful at WSU under Marshall. He expects them to go to class, and study hall, and will punish anyone (see Joe Ragland), if they don't comply.

This probably deserves a thread of its own (maybe there's already one?); oh well, I don't have the time to look it up...

Student-Athletes to Benefit from iPad Technology - A nice anonymous donation to WSU athletics - $500 (estimated cost of iPad) x 250 students = $125,000

WICHITA, Kan. - As a result of a generous gift made by an anonymous donor, Wichita State Athletics will purchase iPads for every student-athlete over this academic year to assist them with all of their academic and athletic needs, Director of Athletics Eric Sexton announced today.

This post made me laugh big time. I won't really go into details at all ... especially on here ... but this hits so much closer to home than some remote juco. BAHAHAHAHA

                    • Find it funny that Illinois State was not mentioned as in the running for ANY of those top players.

Did you really want to ask this question? If so, the answer in NO! I have met some very intelligent people who started at community colleges and ended up earning graduate degrees in tough subjects at WSU.

On the other hand, I know (lots of) stories of students who took difficult subjects at WSU, failed (sometimes repeatedly) and then received high grades in the "same courses" at a local community college; sometimes these students returned to WSU and failed the "next" course.

The problem with community colleges is not that they have poor faculty or that they can't give an intelligent and self-motivated student an excellent education. The problem is that sometimes their minimum standards are low and their grades are "meaningless." If you let students get by with little effort and little challenge, many will leave with little knowledge while the best ("driven") ones will do the extra work, ask good questions, etc. and leave with a good education.

Have you ever heard of anyone flunking out of the University of Phoenix? (I'm sure that it must have happened at least once.) Have you ever heard of anyone flunking out of CCC or BCC or HCC or JCCC? (I'm sure this is more common than with the University of Phoenix and may not be uncommon; however, the quality of students who passed CC courses is ... highly variable.)

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Only if they land a good recruit.

                          • The Shockers were interested in 6-10 C Gary Gaskins at Brevard CC in Florida. He has cut his list to Marshall, UAB, Nebraska, Florida Atlantic and Oklahoma State.

Desmond Lee SG for NMJC-All Conference as Fresh-JC Class of 2013-3.0 GPA

It does not appear the Shockers are involved. He has been to Colorado State and Duquesne and St. Bonaventure are recruiting. UNLV has looked at Lee and it's believed he really likes them.
Desmond Lee is visiting Creighton this week. CU fans are excited because Lee looks likes a typical Shocker player.
