If he's related in any way shape or form, even as a 7th cousin, to Carl Hall, I say we give him an offer.

      • Hard to imagine that a Carl and a Montarius (Montarius?) could have much in common, Kung.

        • A former Shocker recruit to some extent, DeMarcus Holland has de-committed from South Florida. He is still considering them along with Texas and SMU which have also now offered. No other schools are being considered.

          • For those interested in Creighton recruiting, Tevin Calhoun has been released by the Bluejays from his LOI. The 6-6 juco wing was the believed "daddy scholarship" that would of otherwise put them one over. IMO they probably have more need for an experienced pg.

            • It's not surprising we have a coach scouting the Illinois high school finals in Peoria. He was spotted at this afternoon's session which was the 3A championship and 3rd place games. One player on these teams we would probably love to be in on is Larry Austin.

DD Scarver has verballed to Southern Miss.

                • One of our assistant coaches is scouting today at the NY2LA Spring Extravaganza in Minnetonka, MN. One of WSU's known recruits at the event is Tory Miller.

                  • Here is an up to date ranking of recruiting classes for 2012 by Van Coleman. WSU is #33. Houston leads the current non-BCS schools at #13, then there is Xavier and Memphis just ahead of us at #31 and #32. A few MVC schools are mentioned in the Best of the Rest which to me means that are at least in the top 100.

                    • 15 factors when a recruit decides on a school:

Every year thousands of high school basketball players pick where they want to play in college. Some are good enough to go to power schools like UCLA , Kentucky and Duke , while others are happy just to sign with a lower-level Division I school...

For the more informed, fill me in on how we rank on # 7 and 4.

With the Southern Miss coaching change, Scarver reopened his recruitment and will be at Marshall next year.

                        • Drake finishes recruiting class adding post depth. Both are FR. 6'7" 220 out of CA and 6'10" 215 out of Detroit.

I don't recall what kind of post play they had last year, but there's bound to be PT available with Uhlenhop or whatever hanging up the sneakers. Can't wait to see them get abused by Hall and Ehimen.

Last year they had Kraidon Woods, who has now graduated, and Jordan Clarke who is a senior this year. They get VanDeest back from injury, so he and Clarke will probably get the bulk of the post minutes, but freshmen are all they have in the post behind those two (unless you think Simons will give post minutes).

Without Rice, Simons is going to be too exhausted carrying the load to work inside :)

I feel kind of bad for Drake. They were looking at what could have been a pretty sold season until Rice departed. Same with ISU and Moore, but I think they're still in good enough shape to finish top 4.

Van Deest is a nice player. I don't recall Clarke being very impressive though. Sounds like both of the new FR can step out some and may cause some matchup problems for some teams. Could be a couple of nice additions for Phelps. Or whoever is coaching them in '13...

Clarke isn't prolific on the offensive end (although fairly efficient on the shots he does take - shot 50% from the field last year - but not from the line - shot 44% from the line last year), but he is a big body and averaged 7 rebounds a game last year.
