Most recruits would probably call Marshall or the person mainly responsible for recruiting him just before or after their decision thanking them for their time and interest but decided to go a different route. Some coaches may ask the athlete why.

Pretty sure they already knew before the announcement. Maybe he said that then. We may have wanted three guards. Lot's of possibilities, but who knows for sure whether we already had a commitment from Tyson and we didn't want more than two guards in the 2019 class.
