  • Garrett Green LSU transfer

The 6-11 center will be visiting Wichita State. Sounds like i've will chose between the Shockers, Indiana, Long Beach State and San Diego State. He is a senior who will be able to play this year. 6.3 ppg last year.

I'll provide link when I get home.

Dude had a good game against us last season. Must have made an impression on the coaches.

Yes. According to the LSU website he is on track to graduate August 5th, so he will be getting a pretty quick turnaround on grad school.

By the way, the article also notes that he averaged 5.1 rebounds per game last year.

No reason on earth to add a 6'11" senior backup center. None.

Unless Orukpe is predicted to not play much, which I would find troubling as well.

Last year we had a four man rotation in the 4 - 5 positions. This year, other than GS, we have no D-1 experience in the paint. To bring in an experienced D1 center for a year could be a brilliant move. Whether he can beat GS out or be a back up.....this could make a huge difference.

If GS gets in foul trouble......IMO, EO isn't going to be ready. I hope I'm wrong.

We have a hole to fill in the 4 - 5 slot, I'm sure it will get filled.

I respectfully disagree. We have a 4 man rotation this year in the 4-5 positions with Stutz, Orukpe, Hall, and White, but because Hall and White are both new, their seems to be a need for an experienced 4 man.
(although I think White will more than adequate to get playing time).

Orukpe has had time to be ready, basketball is not rocket science. We can't keep 'babying' him, it is time for him to step up and play. I would also find it a little troubling too if Green came in and beat out Stutz for the starting center position when Stutz is going to be a senior with 3 years experience already.

Not that anyone cares, but here's my .02.

This season we have 5 seniors that would compete for, or outright win starting positions for almost every single MVC team.

They've won more than 50 games in 2 years and are the NIT Champions.

They've done their work in the classroom, 3 of them started at the bottom and had the weight of the program placed squarely on their backs. They've not only performed admirably, but they have represented themselves and the University with class and will be remember for years to come.

They deserve every opportunity to win and reach the highest of goals and if bringing in 6'11" senior transfer big man backup accentuates that possibility, then by all means DO IT.

Those kids deserve a chance to get to the NCAAs and win when they get there, and another big kid could provide just such an opportunity.

I have faith that the staff will fix whatever problems losing 6 seniors will cause, and even if they can't, it's worth it for this season.

As far as anyone beating Garrett out for a starting spot, forget it. Barring injury, and feel free to chastise me all you want now or potentially later, I believe Garrett will have a spectacular senior campaign and be in the running for POY.

The Dewiit debacle was unfortunate, Walker was hopeful, and now we have another kid interested. Sounds good to me.

I suppose we could play 2 of them together, if we went to a zone.

I'm with Doc. The kid's a perfect backup, I'd welcome him with open arms should he choose us.

Some on here complain about our post depth for next year, others complain if we try to sign a stop gap who would only eat a scholarship for a year because it shows that our current situation truly is less than perfect. Getting this guy seems like the best situation possible at this point.

I think our starters this year will be Stutz and Hall (which will be a great combo). That will leave a freshman (possibly a really good one) and EO (who needs to make a huge improvement) Do we take a risk that those two will be ready to back up the starters ? or pick up an experienced D1 center ?

As far as beating out GS, I don't know that he will. GS will be hard to beat out. IMO, there is nothing wrong with someone pushing GS for minutes. I do understand the loyalty thing tho.

I'm not down on EO, he just needs a lot of work. It's difficult to see one of the finest athletes I have ever seen not have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a real game....it's the proverbial rock and hard place for the coaching staff.
