  • Darnell Harris to Cleveland State

Yes, class of 2011. I mentioned after we didn't get Walker that I'm still working on 2011. Darnell Harris, a Rival's 3 star and with an ESPN rating of 91 will chose between Wichita State, Cleveland State, St. Louis, Florida International and Utah. It appears he played for Christian Life Center in Humble, TX last season but is from Milwaukee and is playing AAU this summer with the Milwaukee Running Rebels which he has the past few years. My guess is he is Coach Ford's candidate to complete the 2011 roster. With Coach Ford recruiting Darnell, I don't give the other schools much of a chance! Perhaps were should be concerned about Cleveland State. Harris was a high school teammate of Cleveland State incoming freshmen PG Charlie Lee, who both attended Milwaukee Hamilton.

Harris gave a verbal to Florida International last Fall but didn't sign. Rivals shows other offers by Providence and Loyola (IL). However in the past he had serious interest from the likes of DePaul, Iowa State, Xavier, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. Reading between the lines, academics were probably an issue. He is now qualified and ready to play D-1 this season.

Oh, he might be 6-8 but is also listed at 6-7. Rivals shows him as a power forward but he could play either forward position. He's a good banger inside but also has an outside shot and sounds like he probably has the foot speed for a 3. If he becomes a Shocker, expect him to see court time this year.

I'm sure this will give everybody something to talk about for a day or two.

What a great find 'Trop. I kind of found it interesting that Humble is in the same general vicinity of Yates.

I wonder if this kid might be who we were thinking about a couple of weeks ago?

Any chance Darnell was talking with a team that made a good run to the FF earlier this year? If not now, but perhaps this spring?

If we add another I'll be completely confused on how things are going to work out. We know Baker is paying his own way the first year, but who else would be? I know some have speculated Armstead. Are there any families that are pretty well off and would do that for a year? Whatever makes the team better in the long run, not just this year, is alright by me.

          ESPN Recruiting Profile

At the time of his commitment to FIU he was ranked #83 (#19 at his position).

So Darnell is one of those coveted top 100 players. Get 'em coach Ford!

It sounds like his game has some similarities to Aaron Ellis's, although with a bit less height and a bit more bulk.

We need around an additional 15 minutes of "do no harm" basketball out of the 4 this year. Between White and this kid maybe they're there. I think this season can be special if we get adequate defense from Stutz and that's going to require bodies to fill in when he's in foul trouble.

              5 - Stutz/EO/Hall
              4 - Hall/White/TBD

Found some poster online that went to a few of his games and said that he has a nice outside stroke and can light it up from 3 when he is feeling it

                  From the ESPN link above:

Harris is a long combo forward. He is big enough and skilled enough to play either forward spot. He is a streaky shooter with range to 22 feet. Harris is best known for his outside shooting, which can be dynamic. He goes to the fade away in the post and can knock down shots with a hand in his face. Harris can hit the trail 3 or create a shot for himself with a 1-2 dribble pull up. He has a nice face up game from 15' with touch.

I can't imagine somebody on scholarship now is going to be asked to pay up. Remember, there was never mention of Armstead signing a financial agreement. That's a pretty big hint at what is happening.

Harris has enough talent that just about anybody might talk to him. I don't know if this is the one or not. I don't think there is anybody from Yates. There is another unsigned 2011 out of Christian Life that I've been researching, but more questions surround him. So far, I think he will probably go to a jc.

This should silence all of those who have no concern about the frontcourt being to thin. We need another guy, says HCGM.

Not sure it says we NEED one. Having a fifth possibility isn't a bad thing. I wonder if they see him as more of a PF or a SF though. And that will determine how it effects the lineup. Does it cut into court time by White or Ede? One of those two will see fewer minutes if this kid is as advertised and going to see the court.
