Keith DeWitt, the No. 5 JUCO player in the nation and No. 1 Power Forward, has asked for a release from his LOI to USM. Brad Winton says it's 99 percent likely that he'll end up at WSU if released.

DeWitt's upside is his biggest attribute. He's a highly talented but still developing prospect. DeWitt is a long, wiry, angular athlete with loads of potential. He runs the court well and really improved his skill level this year under coach Carlos Peralta at Charis. And with another year he should be well prepared for Big 12 competition. He's somewhat like a guard in a big man's body. He has multiple talents, including ballhandling, passing and good outside shooting for a player his size.

Out of Prep school had offers from: Missouri, Cincinnati, Florida State, Marquette, Miami (Fl), Nebraska, North Carolina State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St and West Virginia.

I thought juco kids did not sign LOI's. Thought they showed their commitment by signing a financial aid package.

I introduced LOI from context in the tweet. That may well be incorrect.

At any rate, since DeWitt is purported to have guard-like ball-handling skills, I'm not frowning at the prospect of having a 6-10 3-man alongside a 7-0 senior center and 6-8 bruiser in the post. (with another 7-0 center coming off the bench.)

Paired with our already proven backcourt, this addition would raise a few eyebrows nationally and make us a lock for Top 25 preseason with a chance to do some very, very big things in March.

It is my understanding that Junior College players do sign National Letters of Intent. Transfers from other Division I schools do not.

I assume it is a reference to not liking taking players with you that are committed to a school.

There is nothing to dislike about DeWitt, but coaches taking players with them to the school they go to is certainly a gray area (not definitively wrong since players ought to have some ability to play for the coach they developed a relationship, but not without ethical issues).

With so many new players, a summer trip to Europe plus the preseason will be darn helpful to the players for learning the offense, learning about teammates skills and tendancies and general all around team play.

If DeWitt comes along, I just may re-up with SASO.

Next season could be pretty exciting.

Exactly. If DeWitt does indeed come here I also can't help but think that's a huge reason why Heiar was hired in the first place, which I wouldn't be crazy about either.
