  • What A Class

This was already a really, really good class. Now you add Ede, Ron Baker and possibly Gabe. That's almost worth two good classes. Four more scholarships next year (assuming Ron gets one of them). Gregg is not here for the short term. He is building HIS program. Pay attention young men of Wichita.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

Wessel, Ede, Cotton, White, Hall, Baker and Gabe?... Not bad at all. We have 2 wings, a combo guard, 3 posts and a shooting guard.

Baker redshirts. Wessel maybe redshirts. Do one of Gabe/White redshirt? Or does that depend on how the staff feels about the Stutz/Ehimen pair. Do we need a 3rd center (Gabe)?

    This is exciting.

Gabe was looking to redshirt wherever he goes.

If that's the case than great!!! He'd be a perfect fit here with Stutz graduating and Ehimen being a SR for his FR year.

Very nice class! Having seen none of the freshman, I believe that Cotton will be a PG, I'll call Evan and Ede "wings," White is a PF, and Gabe (if he comes) will be a center. That is a starting line-up! Add Baker as a freshman RS SG and Hall as the gem of the class PF, and we have the makings of one of those special classes!

Reminds me of MTs class of Burns, Sherrel, Howard, Sowers, Kampman, and Miller and transfer Bret Wise... also the first time we signed Fridge Holman. Also HCGMs class of freshman Murry, Kyles, and Stutz and transfers Hannah, Chamberlain, and Blair and the first time we signed EO.

Note that not all players from those classes worked out, but most of them did in a BIG way!

I'm really liking all this recent recruiting news. If Gabe commits tomorrow I have to think we're getting some nice residuals from the NIT championship. The success of Butler and VCU probably isn't hurting.

"Gabe" is Abodunrin Olaseni. He is from England, but played at Sunrise Academy this past year. He has his own thread and has been long thought to be a WSU target for 2011. He is 6-10 athletic and lean. He is a shot blocker and rebounder. Ultra-athletic and runs the court well. A "nice kid." For better or worse, think 6-10 Ehime Orukpe with a little more offensive polish at 18.

He was at WSU with Ede this past week and will make an announcement tomorrow at 2:45 on his college choice. He is currently considering Iowa, Oklahoma, and a "secret mid-major school," but he chose not to comment as to what school it was for discretionary reasons (perhaps waiting for someone to officially announce their transfer).

Buddy is Buddy Heidel (don't know his real first name). He has his own thread. He is a 6-2ish PG with great quickness and shooting ability. He played the last two years at Sunrise Academy and will graduate in 2012. He is from the Bahamas and is considered by many to be an equivalent recruit to Gavin Thurman (better now, but not as much upside).

IF Gabe is in this class - and I know that's still a big IF - ...

This appeared to be a "reloading" year with those graduating and those returning. This is the makings of a rebuilding class. It looks to be quite a bit more than a reload.

With there being a JuCo and possibly a couple of Fr RS's, there's even some class leveling possible.

Doing it with only half a coaching staff in place is incredible.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Not sure there was any mention of a secret "mid-major" school from the source I saw.

Olaseni, a 6-10 center, is expected to choose between Iowa and Oklahoma, although he reportedly hasn’t been offered a scholarship to Oklahoma.

There also is at least one more school involved with Olaseni, said Kyle Lindsted, his coach at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kan.

However, Lindsted said Olaseni doesn’t want to reveal the third school.

“There are some places that Gabe went that people don’t know about,” Lindsted said Sunday night

From this article I take it to watch out for Oklahoma if the new staff offers. Iowa is a very strong possiblity but,

"Olaseni also holds offers from mid-major schools. Lindsted said it's not out of the question that his center would look that way.

"You have to look at all the options," the coach said. "He could go to a mid-major..."

I put them together as the third school being a mid-major. Per Sullentrop's conversation with his coach, it's not WSU, but you can see where I came up with the third secret school being a mid-major. Combined with other recent activities (on campus with Ede, TRich leaving, Baker verballing as a RS walk-on), you can surely also see why there was much conjecture that the third school (that he wasn't going to talk about and was likely a mid-major) would be WSU.

So if Baker is a walk-on and Sunrise big man is looking elsewhere should we expect another signing for this class? I would think that with Baker agreeing to pay his own way his first year that would imply they intend to fill all scholarships.

That's the way I'm reading it as well, but at this point, who knows.
