  • Big Man Question

Given the status of our big men, shouldn't the Shocks be recruiting a big man center, not a power forward?

Perhaps, we are and I have missed the news on this fine forum. I do not recall that the Shocks are pursuing either a 2011 or 2012 lad.

I will hang up and listen.

    Thanks.

Hypothetically, if our roster losses a 6-7 RS PF freshman due to normal attrition and a 6-8 PF juco transfer due to health reasons, that leaves only incoming freshman Jake White as a PF candidate.

Yes, recruiting a PF should be high on the priority list.

Again, the above scenerio is only hypothetical.

Wish we could get Willie Cauley.

I would like Gregg to go after a PF/C type who happens to be a JUCO freshman. Would have to have made his entrance scores. Help balance the classes out with someone who has a least one year of college experience. I don't have any names. Maybe Trop has some ideas.

Put me in the camp of preferring strong and athletic 6'9" types to 7 footers. When I look at teams getting it done that seems to be the mold. The difference between a 5 and 4 is thin. The Dwight Howards and Alonzo Mournings are few and far between. 7 ft to me just equals project.

I don't think there are very many PF/C types in juco that are already academic qualifiers who aren't projects. The juco freshman qualifiers are usually guards who fell through the cracks.

Good PF/C types don't fall through the cracks. They are far too big!

You're right, good bigs always garner a lot of attention. This is where the coaching staff earns their biscuits, by doing their homework. I think this staff has a pretty good work ethic and if there's one out there, they'll at least talk to the kid. I doubt he'll have stars by his name but could be a contributor.

I would just like to see a little more class balance. Right now I don't anticipate any more than one sophmore on the roster next year.

We will be losing Durley, Blair, and Ellis at the 4/5 spots, and only have Carl Hall and Jake White coming in, and Hamilton is a question mark right now!

As far as I am concerned Richardson is also a question mark, because he has not shown that he can really compete at the Div-1 level, at least nothing more than a role player. He is slow on defense.

Will we be recruiting another big man for 11/12? In the spring?

It would be safe to bet the Snapshot ranch on it... :D

Snap, is there something wrong with having guys that will never be more than role players? You HAVE to have some of those on every team.

Sub, I see this both ways. On the one hand, every team has to have those guys who are perfectly fine with practicing hard, helping the team in any way possible, and doing their part. However, with the people we lose next year, if we could get an "impact player" who could come in an play, I think I would be all for that. Although it is a small sample size, T Rich has shown nothing that would provide the fan base with much hope. He got three fouls in three minutes the other night because he could not keep his man in front of him. I am not for kicking people out, but what role will he play in the coming years?
