  • NCAA Regional - Men's Golf @ Karsten Creek

Shocks visiting Stillwater as OSU hosts the Midwest Regional.

KC seems to be a very tough opponent so far. Only a couple of players are under par. Dustin Garza is already +2 but the Shocks are hanging in there, tied for 7th at the time.

They need to make the top 5 to advance to nationals.

They were seeded next to last out of 13th. While no doubt daunting, I think this is doable.

Doc, how many rounds do they play in the regionals?

3 rounds, one each today, tomorrow and Saturday.

It is very tight but the Shocks are hanging tough, tied for 7th at +9.

7 strokes covers the top 10 teams at this point.

Shocks now in 5th at +9 and 4 back of current leader LSU.

Connor McHenry is tied for 3rd at -1.

We're going to get 1 "bad" score as Ty Sanders and Zac Potter are both struggling a bit but if Dustin and Grady can keep it together (+2 and +3 so far) then the Shocks should be in good shape exiting round 1.

And right on cue, Grady cards a triple-bogey, Connor bogeys and we fall to 11th at +15.

Ended tied for 10th with Michigan State but at +18 they are only 7 shots out of 4th.

It's not as good as being in 4th, 7 shots ahead of 10th place, but it's not exactly a mountain they cannot climb.

Connor McHenry is tied for 11th at +1....some guy out of SDSU is tearing it up at -5.

Dustin Garza is 1 behind Connor.

Not a good start to the day. Grady Pauls carded a sextuple-bogey (10 on a par 4) on his first hole.

WSU is alone in 11th at +22, 8 strokes out of 5th.

Yeah, Ty and Zac have to fight and fight hard today because their scores are going to count.

It's kind of like pursuit cycling....you only take the top 3 (or 4) finishers, but it's a whole lot easier when you are racing with a full team.

At +7 already, Grady has lost touch and dropped out for the day. I wonder if they are experiencing the same winds we are?

Doesn't seem so....winds are 10-20...not exactly fun conditions, but not gale force either.

It's early but they do seem to be carding quite a few bogeys, which is fine as long as everyone else is, too.

It's a different course so maybe it is a bit more difficult, I don't know.

The good news is that Tulsa is imploding and we have passed them and Michigan St. for a 9th-place tie. But we're still 7 out of 5th.

The team is pretty much treading water, staying 9-11 shots out of the 5th position.

Connor McHenry, however, is having a GREAT day, currently -2 on the day and tied for second. He's putting himself in a great position to qualify for nationals, regardless of the team finish.

We may have a decent chance when this day is over if the guys can finish strong.
