Let's cross that bridge when we get to it. I am very impressed by the response so far.

      If I could play devil's advocate here for just a moment . . .

Eric Sexton/Don Beggs: "Internet pledges?" Laughs condescendingly as he leans back in his chair. "When you have the money in hand or signed pledge forms, then we'll talk. Have a nice day!"

I think the site is a good start to guaging general interest and gather a list of potential supporters. I don't think the pledges will be taken very seriously. It would be too easy to fake a name and put in some huge donation. But if it succeeds, great!

Pledges that are larger than "average" need to be followed up by email to confirm their intentions. Also, fake celebrity signatures need to be deleted promptly.

The leadership of the site said that anyone pledging over $1000 would be contacted immediately, directly and those amounts would be scrutinized before being added to the total.

You can believe him or not, I'm not trying to sway anyone, and you can take the list of names being left alone with obvious fraudulent entries anyway you choose.

I just went to the site and that is an impressive list of donors in a short time. However I gotta believe that much more than $15M will be needed to bring football back to WSU. I'm not sure but I think a school that is Div 1 in other sports has to be at least 1AA (or whatever it's called now by the NCAA) in football. That's 65 scholarships added. There is also the cost of the 65 additional Title IX scholarships to consider. Lastly I keep wondering if WSU football was not supported (and it wasn't) very well in terms of attendance what would change to increase that to a viable level now especially with 2 good Big XII teams within easy driving distance?

AS a KSU alumnus I have no problem with WSU bringing back football as IMHO it's no threat to the KSU program and it would certainly liven things up in this dullsville town in the fall but I'm just not seeing it.

Unless a T. Boone Pickens kind of sugar daddy shows up. Mr. Koch?

As I said, that's what the leadership said through the media.....the response you got (or did not get) says what it says.

Oklahoma's pretty close. Beyond that, you've got to drive a ways.

I know there are many unanswered questions about bringing football to WSU. I can't refute them all and even if I could it would not change some naysyers mind. We have to just want it instead of wishing for it!!!!
I look at this site this way. There are many WSU fans that would love to have Shocker Football return and would support it under the right conditions. I'm not sure that our Administration really believes this. However, a grassroots campaign could stur the pot and get things moving in the right direction. If these guys get 15million in pleadges and a ton of signatures it will be hard to ignore IMO. We will see.
Remember this about the support WSU football had:
6 winning seasons in 42 years. This comes to a win/lose record of 151-248 or a .382 winning percentage. Fans just could not get behind this kind of performance. We would loose to Morehead St, UT-Arlington, Missouri Southern and other D1AA and DII schools. Even though we played these schools and lost we manage to fill up Cessna once in a while like the home opener with Texas State in 1984. We lost and fans gave up, attendance tanked. Put a good product on the field and the fans will be there. Look at every other WSU sport.
I would not be for bringing football back as a half baked project just to say we have a team. I agree that it will take a lot of money and effort, but I also believe that it can be done IF the Shocker faithful get behind it with their hearts and checkbooks. By the way..South Florida, UAB, Old Dominion, FAU & FIU did it..South Alabama, UNC Charlotte, Lamar are either planning to add football or voting on it. If they can do it so can we.
