A step in the right direction...

    Wichita Eagle

Sometimes, I don't know why I respond to my own posts, but...

If these Universities can figure out a way to put a football team together each year, then I'm not exactly sure why such a stable community (Wichita) can't do the same.

    It's time.

i dont know exactly why, but i get the feeling that Eric Sexton wants to at least give a good shot and try to put together a football team.

I'm pretty confident that he'll make an effort for football in the near future.

I'll believe when I see it. I think the only football WSU is bound to see in the near future is if my buddy, in Wichita, and his daughter head out to Cessna with a football and do their Charlie Brown and Lucy routine.

Based off of his comments since taking the job. I think in the next couple years we'll at least see a group focused on what we need to do to get it done. I didn't mean we'd have a football team within a couple of years but the movement withing the department will be taking place to see if they think it can be done. Which it can.

Admittedly, I have not been paying attention to Sexton's comments regarding football. I do not question whether it can be done – I am sure it can in some form or another. I do; however, question whether it should be done.

I trust the administration will make a sound decision.

I'm not sure it really matters how the Administration feels about football, if they can't convince the big money donors to get behind it in a big way. At this point, I don't sense a groundswell of support among the big money folks. Admittedly that is more of a gut feel than any real knowledge of the thinking of potential big money donors.

If the financial ducks are not solidly lined up then any foray back into football becomes a bet the athletic program adventure.

It is hard to forget the extreme apathy surrounding the football program in last few years of its existence.

Nevertheless, get it going again and I will be there through thick and thin.

In my dreams, all of the Valley teams have D1AA Football. Makes you wonder...every high school in the country can afford a football team, but so many university's can't. Even most small colleges can afford a team. I hope we can get a team before Cessna is too old. Maybe Eric can get it done. I believe!!!!! :wsu_posters: :goshocks: :posterwu: :posterwsu:

When Eric was on OTL last Sunday, he said he wants to know the strengths of our current sports and build upon those strengths.

If WSU never had to leave the city of Wichita to play opponents of the same quality I'm sure we could afford a team.

I'd really hate to see our other sports and teams suffer due to football. I wish the whole football thing would die already. Lets keep the commitment to building and maintaining the success in other sports and not bring them down just to try and make football work.

Or shell out 60+ scholarships and hire an expensive coaching staff.
