  • Men's Golf at the MVC Championships @ UNI

Another Valley Championship taking place at a location other than Wichita.

The Shocks announce their presence with authority in round 2 of the 3 round tournament, firing a blistering 5 under to take a 15 stroke lead going into today's final round.

Sophomore Connor McHenry leads overall at -4. Senior Ryan Spears and Sophomore Dustin Garza sit tied for 3rd at even par. Zach Potter is +5 and Ty Sanders is +9 after an opening round 79.

Only a total team collapse (unlikely as Ty is almost certain not to repeat that opening round 79) will prevent another MVC trophy for Grier Jones' team.

We hosted at Prairie Dunes a couple of years ago. They are playing this year in Davenport, which is probably a good 2+ hrs away from UNI.

My comment was more referencing what I believe is the MVC office's attempt to give the non WSU schools more of the "pie" than I think is deserving with all sports, not only golf.

Right or wrong, I realize it's my opinion only.

Nothing spectacular but the Shocks haven't lost any ground so far this morning, maintaining a 17 shot advantage.

Illinois State had fallen off the pace a bit. Anything lower than 2nd would be a suprise and PERHAPS give a glimmer of hope to the All Sports chances. They stand in 6th right now but there is plenty of room for upward movement from the team picked 2nd by every coach.

UNI's Andy White takes a ride on the bogey express and falls out of first in the individual standings.

WSU's Connor McHenry eagled the par 5 12th and now sits alone at the top, 5 clear of Andy. Dustin Garza is tied for third one shot back of White and Ryan Spears is 2 more behind Dustin.

The Shocks continue to lead the team competition by a wide margin.

It looks like they have all but wrapped it up, as they are currently 21 strokes ahead of SIU.

Time for Connor, Dustin and Ryan to shoot for sweeping the top 3!

Dustin Garza and Ryan Spears both getting hot and try to track down Connor McHenry.

Connor still leads at -5, but Dustin is closing in at -2 and Ryan Spears sits in 4th place at +1. Not surprisingly the team is 24 shots clear of 2nd place SIU and ISU looks to be solidly in 3rd. :(

Connor will not be caught. He will be MVC Champion as he is finished at -5 and the closest pursurer is at -1.

Shocks and Salukis are done. Shocks with a 24 stroke win over the Salukis

Shocks finish as a team a -2. How often does a college team finish below par collectively on a Conference Championship quality course?

                    Great team effort guys!

                      Conor McHenry

Conor McHenry is from Jeff City, MO, the same place where Paul Miller came from, too. Looks like a great connection for the Shocks!
