Shocker Gage Ihrig had a very good summer winning both the Kansas Amateur Stoke Play Championship and the Kansas Match Play Championship. Apparently, those wins have giving Gage a bit of confidence as he opened his senior season with a 66-67 = 133 (9 under par) at the Joe Jeaganes Marshall Invitational in West Virginia to open the season. Unfortunately, the final round was rained out with Joe trailing medalist leader by 2 strokes after 2 rounds.

However, his Shocker teammates could not ride his coatails. Conrad Walcher did shot a 4-over 73-73 = 146 which isn't terrible. Yannick Emmert who lead the Shocks last year did rally back from a 1st round 78 to record a 69 in the 2nd round.

Overall the Shockers finished in the middle of the pack in the 15-team field 13 shots off the 2-round 562 recorded by Dayton.

HUNTINGTON, W.V. - With rain stopping play in the third and final round, Gage Ihrig took the runner-up position at the Joe Feaganes Invite behind a a career low-18 in the opening round of play.

Pretty poor performance by the Shocker men out in Ft. Collins. I guess they don't like playing at altitude.

Dustin Garza joins the Shocker Hall of Fame. Another good report from Sully.

Dustin Garza came to Wichita State from Mission, Texas so he could benefit from strong coaching and Grier Jones' PGA Tour experience.

The Shocker men finish last in their initial outing of the season out in Southern Cal.

I'm hoping a lot of this is simply due to a cold weather school playing catch up with the mostly warm weather schools that were in this tournament.

The Shocker men are in 10th place at the Furman Intercollegiate at the Fuman Universit Gold Course in Greenville, SC sitting at 15-over after two rounds. Host Furman may be getting a bit of revenge for the beatings the Shockers have given their baseball team. The Paladins are in 7th at 6-over.

The Shocks were 16-over in round one and were 1-under in round two. A significant part of that turn around can be attributed to Yannick Emmert hwo was the Shockers best golfer last year but has been struggling early this season. Yannick had back-to-back snowmen on holes 1 and 2 for a quadruple bogey and a triple bogey on his way to a 10-over 82 and with Erik Angeston shooting 11-over that score counted. Yannick rebounded in a big way in round 2 with a 4-under 68 that included 5 birdies and an eagle.

I will say this for Furman University. From what I have seen on the internet they have one beautiful campus.

Yannick Emmert did not play in the final round at Furman today and the Shocks finished in 11th place. Maybe Yannick has been battling an injury this year and that is whey he has been playing as well as he did last year.

The Shocker Men will be competing in the AAC Men's Golf Championship on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in Palm Harbor, Florida. Hoever, the Shocks are not expected to be in contention. In fact, they are seeded 9th out of the 10 AAC programs competing in this Tournament with only Temple rated below them. Not surprising. They have not been very impressive this spring. I suppose the goal for the Shockers is to try to finish above their seed. Maybe 7th or 8th is a reasonable goal to have.

Pretty decent start for the Shocks in the AAC Men's Golf Championship as they are tied for 5th after Round 1 (of 3) at 8-over par as they received pretty consistent performances from their top 5 giuys.

Sr. Jacob Bishop led the way with an even-par 71 which ties him for 2nd at the top of a croweded indivudual leaderboard. Sr. Gage Ihirig contributed a 73 while Sr. Conrad Walcher and Jr. Adrian Michellod both shot 74. Sr. Erik Agnesten had the throw away score with an 81.

#21 South Florida leads the way at even par.

Shockers unable to sustain their level of play from Round 1 as they shoot he worst score of the day in Round 2 with an 18-over par efforts.

Jacob Bishop soared from an even-par 71 in Round 1 to a 10-over 81 in Round 2 which was the thorw away score for the day. Unfortunately, Erik Angeston could only improve on his 81 in Round 1 by 1 stroke so his 9-over 80 for Round 2 gets counted.

Gage Ihrig at 1-over 72 and Adrien Michellod at 73 were decent in Round 2. Conrad Walcher tacked on a 77 today after a 74 in Round 1.

Shocks drop from a tie for 5th down to 9th place with only Cincy trailing them by 4 strokes.

Shocks playing onley for pride tomorrow and hopefully can avoid finsihing dead last although another Round like today will probably result in a last place finish.

South Florida has pulled away from the field shooitng 5-under for Round 2 and leading 2nd place SMU by 19 strokes.

Kind of gives a whole new meaning to hazard on the course.

The alligator's passing through must have rattled the Shocks. For the second consecutive day the shoot the high round of the day and as feared they did fall to dead last in 10th place. The Shocks finished 50 strokes behind winner South Florida and finished 7 shots behind 9th place UConn.

While the top 4 teams all had below par team scores in today's final round the Shocks came it a +14 on the day and +40 for the tournament.

Gage Ihrig shot a 2-over 73 today to finish the tournament in a tie for 15th on the individual board. Adrien Michellod also shot a 73 and finished in 23rd place individuaully. The other 3 shocks finished T-39th, T-45th and 49th in the 50-man field.

Not sure what happened to or with Yannick Emmert this year. He was the Valley Golfer of the Year last year but had not played well this year.

It would appear that after winning a mulltitude of Championships in the Valley that golf will find the competition in the AAC to be much, much tougher.

Clearly a disappointing result and a disappointing year for the Shocker men's golf team.
