Shocks still lead by 2 with the final 3 holes for each team's #1 player to be reported.

Grant Bennett goes par-birdie-par. Great finish.

        Waiting on Illinois State's #1 player's scores.

Illinois State's #1 player cards a double bogey on 18 and the Shocks are the Champs winning by 5 strokes.

Kudos to both teams. One of the more competitive Valley championship duels that I can recall.

ISU sort of implodes on the last hole giving the Shockers a 5-stroke victory!

If Emmert could have avoided that bogey on 18 he would have tied for the individual championship.

The medalist was the Illinois State's #1 player, Trent Wallace, who had the double bogey on 18.

Kudos to Grant Bennett who was having his poorest round of the weekend heading into the final 3 holes at 4-over par and he game through with 2 pars and a birdie. Grant's birdie on 17 may have forced Illinois State's Trent Wallace, who was in the same pairing, to perhaps take some chances on 18 leading to the double bogey.

Also kudos to the Shocks as a whole for flipping the script on those closing holes from yesterday.

The Shocker Men's Golf team will be heading to Austin, Texas for regional assignment.

The Shocks are the #13 seed in the regional out of 14 teams expected only to finish ahead of St. Peter's University.

The top 5 teams plus the low individual not on those top 5 teams advance to the NCAA Finals. There are a total of 6 regionals. Shocks chances of advancing as a team are extremely slim.

Usually in these regionals I measure how the Shocks have done by seeing if they can outperform their seeding. That's the goal from my perspective. See if you can finish higher than 2 or the 3 teams seeded above you.

South Florida is the 9th seed at the Baton Rouge regional.

Central Florida is the 8th seed at the College Grove, TN regional hosted by Middle Tennessee State.

Houston is the 9th seed at the Stanford regional.

You can see that the Shocks will have to step up their game in the AAC in order to continue participating in the NCAA Tournament.

The Shocks are playing to their seed level in the Austin Regional as they are 13th after Round 1 with a 24-over score that is far off the pace need to compete for a top 5 finish. Not that they were expected to contend for one of those spots.

South Florida is in 10th after Round 1 at Baton Rouge.

UCF is in 2nd place after Round 1 with a 3-under performance at the College Grove Regional.

Houston is tied for 5th with about 6 holes to play at Stanford.

The Shocks must have gotten a good talkin' to by Coach Jones as they were 20 shots better in Round 2 than they were with Round 1 as the Shocks shot a 4-over 288 today.

Conrad Walcher who had the most consistent round yesterday struggled to gay coming in at 8-over par. Fortunately his 4 compadres picked him up. Yannick Emmert was 3-over 74 on the day. Gage Ihrig, after shooting an 11-over 82 yesterday, came in at 2-over 73 in Round 2. Jacob Bishop who was 8-over yesterday came in at even par 71 today. Grant Bennett, whose 5-over in Round 1 yesterday included 8 pars, 4 birdies, 5 bogeys and 1 quadruple bodge, played steady Eddy today with 15 pars, 2 birdies and 1 bogey for a 1-under par 70.

Today's effort moved the Shocks up from 13th to 10th as they passed McNeese State, #46 Liberty and #40 Kansas. May turn out to be a what could have been tournament for the Shocks if they play well tomorrow. A pair of 288's would have them tied for 3rd. As it is they are still 13 shots out of 5th place and very unlikely to make up anywhere close to that much ground.

South Florida dropped 2 spots to 12th at Baton Rouge.

UCF is hanging strong at College Grove and is in a 3-way tied for 2nd.

Houston is tied for 8th at Stanford.

In the final round of the Austin Regional the Shocks shot a 7-over 291 which on the face of it doesn't seem to bad. However, the course must have played much easier today because their were only 2 of the 14 other teams who shot worse (Georgia Southern at 8-over and St. Peters at 25-over). 10 of the remaining 11 teams were a combined 91 under par led by Regional Champion OSU at 14-uncer and 3rd place Iowa State at 21-under (Iowa State was 14-over after the first 2 rounds).

Oklahoma State, Texas, Iowas State, Ole Miss and Arizona State move on to Nationals.

The Shocks did end up playing to their seed by finishing 13th with only St. Peters trailing them (by 57 shots). The Shocks finished at 35-over. 48 shots behind Oklahoma State.

The medalist was Nick Voke of Iowa State at 14-under par. In today's final round he had 9 pars, 8 birdies and and eagle for a 10-under par 61.

                          Live Stats

South Florida finished in a tie for 10th at Baton Rouge. Houston finished in 10th place at Stanford.

However, Central Forida, seeded 8th at College Grove, pulled a big uspet as they won that Regional and will be heading to Nationals. Congrats to the Knights.
