  • 2016 NCAA Track & Field Championships

Nice article on Nickerson's Skylar Arneson heading into the NCAA Track & Field Championship this weekend including short video clips with comments from Skylar, Ashley Petersen and Coach Rainbolt.

Good luck to Skylar, Damien and Ashley. Getting to the NCAA Championships is the quite an honor for these athletes.

Skylar Arneson finished 20th in the Hammer Throw. Finishing his career in the top 20 of his event is a nice ending to the young man's Shocker career. Hopefully, Skylar will tear it up in the Highland Games.

Shocker Junior Damien Odle had a really nice javelin throw of 235-11 to finish 9th in that event just missing out on All-American honors. I think 9th place earns Damien 2nd team All-American honors.

Nice job men. Will be interesting to see how far Damien will be able to throw the spear in his senior year.

goShockers.com report on Skylar's and Damien's performances at the NCAA Tournament.

Damien did in fact earn 2nd Team All-American honors and Skylar receive Honorable Mention All-American honors.

Damien, from Greensburg KS by way of Cowley County CC, is the Shocker school record holder and will be back next year to try to break his own record. 5 of the 8 athletes who finished ahead of Damien this year were Seniors which gives Damien a great shot at 1st team All-American honors next year.

Skylar, from Nickerson KS by way of Hutchinson CC, has the 2nd best hammer throw in Shocker history and has completed his eligibility.

Both Damien and Skylar were NJCAA National Champions in these events before coming to WSU.

Ashley Petersen closed out her Shocker career this evening with a very nice 15th place tie at the NCAA Championships which will earn Ashley 2nd Team All-American honors.

The jump of 5-10 was actually tied for 10th best jump of the competition but Ashley ended up in a 15th place tie based on the number of misses.

        Congratulations to Ashley.
