  • Intercollegate Bowling Championship Time Again

Both the Shocker men and women have qualified for the 16-team national championship brackets starting today and running through Saturday at Northrock Lanes.

Doesn't exactly sound like the Shocks are flying high this year but that was the case last year when the men won their 11th team national championship.

    :poster_shocks:

    Here is a detailed schedule.

Looks like the Shocker men finished the Qualifying Rounds (Six 4-game Baker matches) in 4th place and the Shocker women finished 3rd after the qualifying rounds.

You can follow the Shocks on Twitter at: https://twitter.com/ShockerBowling

Looks like the men have their backs to the wall down 1-3 in the best of 7 match vs Robert Morris - Illinois. So far the Shocker men are pretty much getting their butts kicked.

The Shocker ladies are at 2-2 in their match.

Update: The Shocker men fall to Robert Morris - Illinois 1-4 and fall into the losers bracket. They really have their work cut out for them now and they need to bowl much better than they did in this match to make any noise this year. Average score in the 5 games: RMU 208.8 - WSU 188.2

Update: Lady Shocks with a big 258-161 win to go up 3-2 in their match.

Update: Lady Shocks fall in game 6 182-235. Going to a deciding 7th game.

Update: Lady Shock win game 7 and take the match 4-3. Not sure what the score was but the tweet said it was exciting.

Lady Shocks go up 1-0 over UW-Whitewater with a strong 247-198 win.

Update: Lady Shocks are rolling in this match winning 246-213 in game 2 and 259-167(?) in game 3.

Update: Shocks lose game 4 by 213-237. Shocks lead 3-1.

Update: Dasha Kovalova's double in the 10th carries Shocks to 206-201 win in game 5 as the Lady Shocks close out UW-Whitewater and move on in the winner's bracket.

Lady Shocks play #10 North Carolina A&T tomorrow at 1:30

The Shocker men played at 8:00 am this morning sweeping Urbana. Twitter shows the scores as 146-177, 192-180, 183-171 and 210-171. Not sure about that game 1 score. I'm thinking there might be typo. Perhaps 246-177.

In any case, the Shocks move on to play #1 qualifier Purdue at 9:45. It does not appear to me that the Shocker men are bowing at a real high level when you compare there scores to what the Shocker Ladies put up yesterday. Nevertheless, the 1st round loss eliminated any margin of error for the Shocks.

Black and Yellow vs Black and Gold Live Stream

Shocker men with a dominating win in Game 1: 245-136. This game was over early and Purdue seemed to be experimenting over the last half of the game. It will be interesting to see what happens when the teams switch lanes.

Purdue closes Game 2 with 8 consecutive strikes to even the match with 259-195 win.

Lost the video stream early in Game 3 but after a slow start the Shocks rallied for a 214-181 win to go up 2-1. So far the team bowling on the left lane has won each game.

Shocks break the trend winning Game 4 from the right lane 246-200 to go up 3-1.

Shocks pick up a 6/10-7 split early in Game 5. However, after open frames in the 1st and 3rd on the right lane Purdue closes strong for a 223-205 win.

After an opening spare on the right lane in Game 6 the Shocks strung together 9 consecutive strikes and they eliminate the Boilermakers 278-225.

Shocks will need to win 5 matches today to advance to play tomorrow Championship match. 2 down, 3 to go. Next match at 1:30pm

Both the Shocker men and the Shocker women will be in action at 1:30pm.

The Lady Shocks play North Carolina A&T in the winner's bracket. To refresh the Lady Shocks, who qualified as the #3 seed, defeated #14 Wright State 4-3 and #11 Wisconsin-Whitewater 4-1 yesterday. #10 NC-AT defeated #7 Pikeville and #2 Emmanuel. Not sure that the seedings mean all that much in this format.

The 4th seeded Shocker men will take on #8 Calumet College of St. Joseph (Whiting, Indiana). Calumet was swept in Round 1 by #9 William Patterson but knocked of #16 Ohio State 4-2 and #5 Pikeville 4-2 this morning.

Also in the women's bracket the #8 seeded Newman Jets were eliminated by #5 Delaware State this morning. Newman went 1-2 in the Championship.

                Round 5 Matches:

Shocker Men take game 1 over Calumet College 216-154

Shocker Women take game 1 of NC-A&T 227-182

                Game 2 Update:

Shocker Men lose game 2 154-204. Tied at 1 game apiece with Calumet.

Lady Shocks win a high level competitive game 264-245 to go up 2-0. You don't win a lot of games when your opponent rolls a 245.

                Game 3 Update:

Shocker Men lose a tough game 3 236-252 and now trail 1-2.

Shocker Ladies fall 171-180 in Game 3 as they now lead 2-1.

                Game 4 Update:

Shocker Men prevail 210-189 to square the match at 2 games each.

Lady Shocks with a late rally pull out a 198-181 win to go up 3-1.

                Game 5 Update:

Shocker Men make it 2 in row winning Game 5 by a 200-187 to take a 3-2 lead.

Lady Shocks stay undefeated winning their match 4-1 with a 203-185 win in Game 5. The Lady Shocks are the only unbeaten in their bracket now and need to win 1 more match in their bracket to reach the Championship match tomorrow. They will two shots to do so. They play at 5:30pm and if they win they are in. If they lose they roll again at 7:15pm.

                Game 6 Update:

Shocker Men close out their match with a 189-150 win in Game 6. 3 down today and 3 more needed to reach the Championship Match on Saturday. The Shocker men will be rolling again shortly against the winner of the William Patterson - Robert Morris-IL match. I misstated the number of games the Shocks have to win today to make the finals. I previously said 5 but it is 6. They have won 3. If they win their next match they will have to beat the other remaining team in their side of the bracket twice to reach the Championship match. Talk about trying to do it the hard way.

                  Round 6 Matches:

Lady Shocks are through to Round 7 undefeated and await the winner of the Round 7 loser's bracket match. That will be against either NC-A&T, Maryland-Eastern Shore or Notre Dame-Ohio.

Shocker men will be playing #13 Robert Morris-IL (Chicago) who dealt the Shocks their 1st round loss. Time for some revenge. Match starting around 3:30 and will be streamed live.

                  Warming up now.

Shocks fall behind 0-1 losing Game 1 204-217. RMU jumped out to a big lead and the Shocks could just not quite erase that early advantage.

Game 2 Update: Shocks get it tied up with a 234-164 win in Game 2. Left lane has won both games so far and RMU started on the left lane.

Game 3 Update: Whatever the momentum the Shocks may have had disappeared quickly with back-to-back open frames to start Game 3. I lost my video feed but the Shocks came storming back to take win Game 3 236-205 to go up 2 to 1. An impressive effort.

Game 4: RMU opened the door a couple times for the Shocks but they had difficulty finding the sweet spot and fell 174-201. Match all square at 2 games each.

Game 5: Shocks found the pocket in Game 5 with an outstanding game. RMU stepped away from their lane about halfway through the match. Not sure of that was some gamesmanship or what. In any case, Shocks roll to a 264 to something victory assuming RMU ever finishes up. Final score 264-161. Shocks lead 3-2 in a back and forth match.

Game 6: The Shocks were cruising until their anchor bowler throws a 4-count ball leaving a 6-pin split and then only picked up 2 of those pins in the 10th. Fortunately, the Shocks had a huge lead and and held on to close out the match 4-2 with a 219-202 win. Hopefully, that 10th frame brain cramp will not be duplicated.

4 down, 2 to go. Shocks will now take on William Patterson who won a National Championship in 1992. Shocks will need to beat William Patterson twice to make the Championship game.

The Shocks are in the Final Four in both the men's and the women's. However, the Shocker ladies only need 1 win reach the Championship game vs 2 for the Shocker men.

Round 7 matches are schedule for 5:30 but unlikely to get started before 5:45 at the earliest. I am not going to be able to follow these matches and not sure about Round 8. Hopefully, the Lady Shocks don't have a Round 8 match and the Shocker Men do.

The Shocker men may have run out of gas in physically and/or mentally in their 5th match of the day losing 2-4 to William Paterson 193-183, 175-180, 186-193, 182-218, 214-198 and 174-188. Neither team exactly lit it up but William Paterson was jusst a litttle bit better than the Shocks. Good effort by the Shocks to try to battle back through the losers bracket. The moral of the story -- don't lose that 1st round match.

The Lady Shocks on the other hand pretty much rocked it against Maryland-Eastern Shore with 4-0 sweep by scores of 253-214, 257-169, 202-156 and 260-198 as the Lady Shocks punched their ticket to the National Championship match tomorrow at 11:00am.
